Joined the USAF through Officer Candidate School commissioned a 2nd lieutenant. Made outstanding progress to Captain and won the Joint Services commendation Medal from the Secretary of Defense.
While in the Air Force I acquired expertise in electrical engineering and decided to shoot for a Ph.D. in neuroscience at the Cornell campus in Ithaca New York. There I received a prestigious National Science Research Award. With my 2000 PhD. in Neuroscience I joined the research team of Dr. Chapin at the SUNY campus in Brooklyn New York. During my tenure with Dr. Chapin I met and worked with Dr. Miguel A.L. Nicolelis, M.D., PhD. , currently at DUKE University department of Neuroengineering.
I then received an offer as a Research Scientist at the University of Florida in Gainesville. During my stay, I won and was a member of numerous NIH grants. At this point in my life I decided that the knowledge I had acquired would best be used by multiple segments of the general public and therefore founded the nonprofit “Neuroscience –NOW.”
Dissemination of State-OF THE-ART peer reviewed neuroscience impacting an individual’s mental health diagnosis, treatment and behavior by the targeting professional and non-professionals audiences.
The "bible" of psychiatry, DSM must be supplanted by combing traditional "checklist" mental health diagnosis with emerging neural physiological biomarkers which will afford individualization of diagnosis and treatment of all major forms of mental disorders. This will massively reduce cost of treatment and encourage individuals to become actively involved in brain/mind optimal performance behaviors.

I want to add that the research on adult Neurogenesis has the potential to revolutionize how we treat almost all the major mental disorders.

Almost every psychiatrist in this country uses it as sought of a checklist to narrow down the possible mental health diagnosis from a questionnaire and your discussions with the doctor. It is very useful for a first cut and makes use of the large number of cases in the psychiatric literature. Here is the problem, it does not make any judgement on the cause of one's mental disorder, just a diagnosis. If you look at my website you will see the "light years" of advancement we have made in Neuroscience not even peripherally incorporated into DSM logic. Mental disorder and treatment MUST take into account the biological specifics of each individual. Email if you want specific mental disorder insights form the last 10 years of neuroscience research.
