Aug 17 2012: Freud is still studied because his work was critical to the development of psychology although since none of theories can be scientifically proven they really are not considered the answer to questions such as this in modern psychology.
Aug 16 2012: In some way that is his point - all creations are in a sense just innovations. The collective subconsciousness shared by all humans is where it begins and every thought and idea is an adaption, never completely new or original. He is really interested in justifying how patents that claim ownership to some broad concept rather than a concrete detail are harmful to the growth of "remixes." If some of the "original" folk songs (being influenced by other music, lyrics originated in oral stories, etc.) were patented there would not be this wide variety of folk music to enjoy today. This of course can be applied to all fields where creativity exists.
