Aug 31 2012: When evidence obtained illegally cannot be used, it is simply because, no one can be sure it is legitimate. You cannot just show up with a bloody knife, claiming it was taken from the accused's home - you have to be able to prove it.
Another thing is the rights of an individual. A lot of people are questioned by the police during an investigation... most of them will be innocent of the crime and should not have their home/work searched and money, computers or other items seized.
The law has to be equal for all. We are all innocents until proven guilty, and even criminals have rights - they might be guilty of a crime, but should not automatically have the right to be innocent until proven guilty taken away in other cases.
The entire concept of a court is, that one is innocent until a verdict decides otherwise. All doubts should benefit the accused.
Aug 31 2012: The government has legislated on many issues that was once "parental decisions" or "a medical doctor-patient relationship".
You are no longer allowed to sell your children... many years ago that was a parental right.
Many things previously thought of as a cure - burning witches if many people in a town fell ill - has now been proven wrong and harmful and there is legislation making it illegal.
You are no longer allowed to burn people.
The people against this legislation are arguing from an unscientific point of view - and forgetting basic human rights.
The "gay cure" is not a cure... not medically speaking.
The main purpose of the legislation is to prevent harm, and make sure everyone has their own free - including children, who have the right to not being treated for non-illnesses or in other ways abused physically or mentally.
Adults who wants to be "treated" for their sexuality can seek a therapist... they do not offer a cure, but therapy. And as long as it is harmless and voluntary, people can do what they want.
Aug 31 2012: Yes Jake, I do.
But a way around it is to meet a lot of people. I find, that I quickly get "attracted" to the intelligent people in a group. Most of my friends have an IQ above average.
I don't choose them for that reason, but I do get better along with people, who share similar interests... and I am not interested in the reality shows. In groups where I don't choose the company myself, I do struggle to find topics.
Having a child makes conversation easier, as many topics follow parenthood. Babies, schools, behaviour, prices on clothes, and so on.
But I'm not good a small talk, and don't have enough popular knowledge to lead a conversation among strangers.
Maybe that would be an idea to study popular topics? Social interactions are very important to all humans, and you can learn a lot from studying people.
Aug 29 2012: In Scandinavia education if free, and most people (around 80%) takes at least High school/college or equivalent.
It is mandatory to attend school (or be home school and pass exams) from approx. 6 till 15-16 years old.
I do believe the high percentage getting degrees or diplomas/certificates is due the education being free.
This allows children from all walks of life to get an education and is a big part of creating a stable economy.
I do believe other countries would benefit from free education for all. And pay through taxes.
Education benefits us all, and we all benefit whether directly or indirectly.
Aug 28 2012: In several countries education is completely free - benefiting society by having more people in education and more people working. And thereby paying back their fees through taxes.
Aug 23 2012: The is one big issue with your suggestion.
Most are raped by someone they know - meaning husband, family member, friend, friend of a friend.
And in many cases it is not the only violent action - could be ongoing domestic violence or a threat to kill the victim or someone close to her.
In all these cases self defence would be useless.
The education should be on how to be strong and contact someone, if you feel threatened or exposed to violent behaviour. And for the men, that porn is not sex and have nothing to do with a relationship.
Another extremely educational topic would be equality - so men don't think they are allowed to rape, or that women once they have said yes, have agreed to anything, anytime. Most of the comment I read from the US regarding the definition of rape/abortion caused by the rape and similar topics, lack that understanding.
The education should be about that every person (capable of life outside the womb) has a right to decide over their own body. No one is allowed to mutilate or in other ways harm someone else body (or mind). And there are no exceptions.
In most of northern Europe we don't use the terms "pro-life" or "pro-choice". It does not make any sense to use them - an abortion is only legal when the embryo is so small, that it is missing the ability to be alive. It would not live outside the womb, even with help, and it therefore not a person. It is a medical definition based on the possibility to live.
Not being "pro-choice" would legally mean, that someone else can decide over your body, i.e. organ donation. It would not be legal to be against-choice, as all individuals have a right to their own body.

I could comment on your link - but it seems you are not here to learn.
At least I've just had a good laugh with a few friends on your expense - using that link as a source of information is a joke, and I just hope you don't argue for a living.

I really fail to see how you case is relevant, linked or like Assanges case???
About the female diplomat - I can almost say for certain, that if she walked around in a bikini i Saudi Arabia, she would not be able to avoid prison (or more) simply by pulling the diplomat card.
Respect for the local laws are necessary even for diplomats.
Barry:
How often does an embassy give asylum to sex offenders?
I don't think Ecuador often gives asylum to alleged sex offenders facing questioning.
There is a big difference in fleeing death, torture or live imprisonment because of political views, or fleeing a fair trial and a possible prison sentence - in this case just questions that could lead to a charge.
The charges and countries are very relevant, as the international relation and power s diplomats are not there to intervene with local laws and political asylum is not a mean to avoid abiding the law.
I know one case in Denmark, where a diplomatic status was changed, because it was given to avoid drug and weapon charges to an ambassadors son. It was decided, that he could not just make anyone a diplomat - and in that way the embassy could not just do what is pleased.
The concept of an embassy is goodwill and an agreement to follow the rules - both ways!
It was never meant as a carte blanche.
Sweden is different from the US in many ways - charges are not made without investigation because everyone are innocent until proven guilty.
That does not however mean that you can avoid facing questions.
Another thing that is very very different is, that Sweden - as many countries in Europe, are not allowed to extradite offenders, if they risk death or torture.
And both happens in the US.
Should the US therefore ask Sweden for Assange, in questioning him regarding the leaks (with charges of treason or espionage he could risk death penalty) Sweden would have to keep Assange... Assange have actually previously asked for residence in Sweden, but was not granted it.
Usually her tantrums are because she is hungry or tired.
Maybe we should make it a policy to provide incompetent leaders with a snack and ask them to take a nap.
I think, we are in general far too eager to apply diagnostic labels. To managers, political leaders, famous people, our ex-partners, the teacher we don't like and so on.
Maybe because it is easier to feel justified in our negative feelings?
But that's another discussion.
