Jul 27 2012: I'm trying to find the source for that now. There was some research done on how to create quieter pavement for our highway systems (since the majority of the noise is from the compression and expansion of air), but they also found that caused less frictional resistance, improving gas mileage.
Jul 26 2012: There are already private choices for education- they are just too expensive for the average family to buy in to(especially religious schools).
Jul 26 2012: While it may create zero net friction in the x direction, it would require an ENORMOUS amount of energy to negate friction. To have zero friction, you would not be touching the ground, which is the effect of a superconductor at room temperature, which hasn't been found yet to be naturally occuring in this galaxy. What we need now is intelligent pavement, asphalt that is quieter by trapping less air bubbles between the tire and the road surface, which helps improve mileage in gas-powered vehicles.
That or we make electric cars practical by the average westerner.
Jul 25 2012: The poor quality of education is caused by our current system of educating. Children learn by experimenting; they learn to walk by trying to, same with speaking. When they reach the age of six we take that from them and put them in front of a book, and education changes form to teaching. There is an excellent TEDTalk on the subject by Sir Ken Robinson (http://www.ted.com/talks/ken_robinson_says_schools_kill_creativity.html) that discusses the topic of how children today learn. I would request of you that you watch it, and share that with anyone else you may know that is in the education profession or planning on doing so later in life.
Jul 25 2012: Greed is not a luxury. Greed is the desire for having enough luxury to be satisfied. Many people (unfortunately in business) have an enormous amount of greed, worrying about quarterly profits than the overall well being of the company, industry, or planet. It is greed that is the center of all of the worlds problems:
INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY, which is the biggest BS that I've ever heard of.
FAMINE, something that can be wiped out if the right people wanted it to be.
INEQUALITY, because who doesn't want more social and political power than the people who deserve it the least.
There are many other problems, and many of them can be solved by the removal of greed in people, or at least those that are leaders.
