A comment on Conversation: If parents showed more of themselves, would kids develop better, healthier coping skills?

Jul 30 2012: Hi Nicole, if your question is to explain why so many children take to drugs, self injury, etc... I do not think it has to do with parents opening up about their struggles and imperfections. I think it has more to do with two factors: communication and love. Kids and young people need to feel they are respected and listened to and above all that they are loved.
Both factors are complementary. To talk without love is useless prattle and to love without communication is sterile.

A comment on Conversation: Which is better for you and why as approaches to clinical and counseling psychology? Existentialism or cognitive behavioral therapy?

Jul 26 2012: Cognitive behavioral theory is suitable for the majority. It is soft and provides gradual insight into oneself. Existentialism is more eclectic and suitable to philosophers, religious people, artists, or the chosen few. Not many people are able to tell (or even conceive of) the difference between facticity and authenticity or are ready to face angst and despair.
The one appeals to reason and the other to meaning beyond reason. I practice existentialism twice a week and mostly over the weekend otherwise it is all cognition. This is safer. Cheers!
  • A comment on Conversation: Can Minimalism change the course of human history?

Jul 26 2012: I like your definition of minimalism as " the thought of reducing your possessions for the betterment of yourself" and as "taking only what you need, and giving back in return." I truly believe that we tend to accumulate more possessions than what we need and rarely think about giving back in return or even sharing. I think your idea of minimalism is a point to contemplate not only on a personal level but also on a national and business level. We squander resources like hell every day and still worry about sustainability. Thank you!
  • A comment on Conversation: How old is planet Earth?

Jul 26 2012: How old is the Universe? As much as we can count.
And how long will it remain? As much as we can count.
  • A comment on Conversation: Can religion be a science?

Jul 26 2012: Can a cat be a dog? or can "Chemistry" be "Physics"? or can "I" as a kid be the same "I" as adult?
The issue revolves more about what is common or different between two apparently different objects. To say they are (or can be) the same or totally different is extreme.

A comment on Conversation: What is the source of intuition?

Jul 22 2012: There is no source for intuition. Intuition itself is the source.

A comment on Conversation: Has technology accelerated human evolution?

Jul 22 2012: Humans can measure the evolution of everything except their own. In a moving car, the driver does not perceive the passenger moving, nor himself, whereas everything outside "seems" moving. We know that nothing is moving outside except the car we are in.
Therefore, to correct the statement above, "Humans measure the evolution of everything based on their own."

A comment on Conversation: What is the key to happiness?

Jul 19 2012: There is no key to happiness, just a door to push open or to keep closed.
