Russell Foster: Why do we sleep?
Sleep-wake rhythms are affected by light levels, especially blue light. We can override it if we really want to, but that comes with all the health disadvantages that Foster described. Here's a NY Times article on the subject: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/07/05/health/05light.html?_r=2&pagewanted=all Here is a Wikipedia article on the retinal cells responsible for noticing daylight (different cells from rods and cones): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intrinsically_photosensitive_retinal_ganglion_cells And on this page is a list of research (scroll down a bit): https://justgetflux.com/research.html

Graham Hill: Why I'm a weekday vegetarian
This entire message doesn't make sense to me. I understand that it's unsustainable for everyone to eat meat every day. But your absolute statement that it is unacceptable to eat meat at all seems extreme to me. Acceptability isn't something you personally get to define, it's an opinion. We as a society decide what is and isn't acceptable. To me, eating meat is natural, carnivores and omnivores are found everywhere in nature. As hard as it is to accept, murder is part of being a mammal. As long as we take into consideration our health, sustainability and living conditions for these animals (all of these aspects still need work) I think we should be able to eat meat.
