Aug 20 2012: I agree. I kept thinking some other window was open and interfering. Maybe if we were present at the talk and seeing the visuals as well it wouldn't have been as obtrusive. But maybe that would have been worse.
Jul 26 2012: It certainly adds to the tools the ASHA workers have at their disposal. Whether it adds to or subtracts from the health of the nation depends on their managers.
Managers tend to get seduced by technology. I can see a situation develop where her boss says, "Aesha, you sent three people to the health centre last week when the little alarm clock showed a picture of a house. I know you were worried about other factors, and two of those people turned out to need treatment, but the regulations say you should have followed the alarm clock. I'm sorry, but we'll have to let you go"
Jul 25 2012: It's an intriguing concept, but we have to remember that many people over the years were not given this plethora of choice; were not, in fact, given any choice. It's fine to give up the driver's seat after being offered it... it's horrifying to never get the offer. The unfolding symphysiotomy scandal here in Ireland is just one of many examples where people really needed to be offered a choice, but the 'drivers' felt they knew best, and would only confuse patients by even informing them of what had been decided.
Jul 24 2012: It might help allay Enrico's fears if you called it "James' talk" or "the Admiral's talk", rather than "the Supreme Commander's talk". There's something very worrying about that title :)
Jul 24 2012: I don't care if other countries/blocs are wary about this particular idea, as long as they think they have to get in on the act. Imagine an escalating warm and cuddly war! The U.S. has two ships out there providing medical treatment to underdeveloped nations, so Russia feels it has to have four. China commissions eight to show its power; then the U.S. has to respond again. Wouhou! We'll have thirty of these things plying the seas, begging to help, in no time!
Jun 30 2012: All certainty is the enemy of humanity. If you are certain that your belief is the one truth, you can be certain the other guy's belief is a total fallacy. Then you suddenly have the right, if not the duty, to force him to change his belief, or kill him if he refuses to.
Jun 29 2012: The original Utopia had slaves as a perfectly normal part of its society, because the author could not imagine a society which could function without them. What is possible that we are now failing to imagine?
