Jun 8 2012: I think communication is of course essential. The idea of using prisons is pretty unique, however if the message isn't well conveyed, the whole project would be pointless. Especially because humans have the ability to interpret things differently, its necessary to make sure they interpret the right message.
Jun 8 2012: I couldn't agree with you more. The first time I went to the zoo was the first time I knew I wanted to become a biologist :) Things like zoos not only help educate people but do great in motivating as well.
Jun 7 2012: One of the first things an organization such as this should do first is get funding. As sad as this fact may be, that we live in a world where without money, we have very little power, it would help them expand. Like you said, Billy, they could reach a large population if they were able to educate people through the media and television. But commercials, shows, and movies cost a lot of money. They could also travel to remote parts of the world and educate people with lectures and presentations. I think this idea would create awareness, and if they start small and get more people involved, this could turn into a much bigger organization.
Jun 7 2012: I agree with what you both said. Zoos only have a limited amount of resources and i think it should be spent educating the public and maintaining what they already have. Because this alone, already seems like so much work. Of course, it'd be great if they could focus on conserving species both inside and outside their own boundaries, but this would be a lot of work for one organization. This is possible if zoos were able to get more funding though.
Jun 5 2012: I was thinking the same thing Theresa, however, Matthew has a point. Awareness is only the beginning. Are these extremest tactics actually helping action take place for these environmental concerns?
Jun 2 2012: I agree with Christina on this one. Many people hear the word 'extreme environmentalists' and they automatically think crazy and inefficient. But they are in fact a controversial subject. Because they do participate in extreme acts, they end up catching the attention of someone out there. However, they are almost hypocrites because on the way of trying to save our environment, they are harming the environment with their bombs , fires, etc. And many people question if this is the most efficient way to catch people's attention.
