  • A comment on Conversation: What makes a good judge?

May 17 2013: In that sense a "good" judge would be someone who can blindly apply laws as evil as the spirit of the laws might be. So it is a matter of perspective. Many of us have been taught that, at least in many "western" style democracies, the judiciary is independent. Superficially this might be so. But almost invariably judges come from a privileged stratum of the concerned society. Career judges are very rarely fair in an absolute sense since intuitively they will defend the order that has promoted them. Consider the pecking order.

A comment on Conversation: Truths and Facts. Does Science prove anything?

May 16 2013: Science is but another explanation of the universe and, at that level, fiercely competing with religions. Interestingly when we learn to write stories we learn one basic principle: any story should have a beginning, a middle and an end. The problem we are writing the story of the universe from within. Science came up with the "big bang" theory and many religions with some creation story. Religions are somewhat more romantic and closer to the people. Unfortunately many scientists want to "elevate" science to the status of a religion. As much as I admire people like Richard Dawkins I think this approach is wrong. Science is not a tool to find the truth but to give a "logical" explanation of observable natural phenomena. Truth is a moral term. Truth is in the eyes of the beholder.

A comment on Conversation: The recognition of begging as a profession!

May 16 2013: No ... I am just appalled at waste, especially when disguised as a charitable action. I am also baffled by the disrespect many "beggars" are subjected to.
  • A reply on Conversation: The recognition of begging as a profession!

May 16 2013: It might not be called begging but it is. And all the religious institutions I know build churches, temples, cathedrals ... All momnuments to their own glory.
  • A comment on Conversation: The recognition of begging as a profession!

May 15 2013: But more of the funds are used to erect churches, cathedrals and buy sumptuous outfits and vehicles for the priests and highpriests
  • A comment on Conversation: The recognition of begging as a profession!

May 15 2013: People here also look down on beggars because the good ones make money "without" working. However, not paying taxes
