Sep 26 2012: In this talk, there was a seemingly bizarre comment about Sufism and psychics that send out messages that psychic ability does not exist. The comment is bizarre in the sense that it is put in the midst of an otherwise scientific conversation of the invisible. Can anyone provide references or additional information regarding this notion? I have heard of or was aware of all the points made in this video except for this bizarre jewel of a comment about Sufism. It stoked my curiosity but found no info readily available in a google search. Thanks for your help. The invisible is certainly endlessly intriguing.
Sep 23 2012: Der takin' er jobs! (South Park)...but seriously, this is reality and our leaders need to discuss with the public how to distribute resources as people become more and more obsolete in the workforce.
Sep 23 2012: There needs to be a stopgap measure put in place for people to have access to resources even though they have no money. Paul, have you ever tried getting food, shelter, health care, etc. in America without money? Newsflash, it is very difficult. I, for one, welcome our computer overlords as well - but insist that the transition must be planned and people's needs must be provided for and not just presumed to transition smoothly without intervention.
Aug 5 2012: The question raised of how to respond to a bully without becoming a thug is a great question. Turning the other cheek is great advice...until you get tired of being hit. So some practical advice would be really useful for this question of how to not allow the worst amongst us define what we become. A book was referred to as having 81 ways to respond to violence without violence. This sounds interesting, otherwise I don't feel any practical solutions were mentioned in the talk - though I think the question it raises is worthwhile in and of itself.
Jul 21 2012: Once the category tree is elaborated, a probability and value has to be applied to each node in order to determine which nodes to focus on. The topic is about as complicated as they come, but I don't know of a better practical approach than expert system design.
Jul 21 2012: Address security with expert system design theory. No single solution fits all problems. I'll brake the category tree down briefly. Address both the why and the how of crime. As for the why - there are survival issues and psychological issues. Survival issues break down to things like food, shelter, health. Psychological issues includes things like radical belief systems and psychological disorders such as sociopathy. The how issues are exactly what the speech looks at. The why issues are really easier to address in the sense that there are arguably fewer categories. The how categories seem only limited to the creativity of the neerdoweller.
