Heidi Echternacht Posted about 2 years ago Should we begin teaching children letter sounds first with lowercase letters instead of letter names with uppercase letters? There simply is no "one way" to teach the fluency of reading and writing. What works for one child, doesn't for another. Some children learn to read without any "instruction" or plan and others need to be taken through step by step no matter which method you use: lower, upper, chicken or egg. The goal of learning to read is not to "learn to do it faster" but to learn to do it by the time you are seven or so and enjoy it enough that you will stick with it throughout a lifetime.
