Dan Geurin Posted over 1 year ago Jarrett J. Krosoczka: How a boy became an artist I love this story! I had a chance to hear Jarrett speak at a children's book festival in Albany, NY. He touched on his inspiration, but not to the extent that he did during this presentation. The lessons that I draw from this talk as a teacher and a parent are that what kids need are opportunities and positive reinforcement. Their enthusiasm and talent will then take them where their interests lie. I see too much structure being placed on kids today and although it gets them involved, they are never truly allowed to explore and follow their own inner voice. Jarrett shows that although he didn't have very much growing up, the adults in his life gave him the tools to do what he loves to do. There are many people in the world who have started out with much more, but aren't encouraged to find their own way. Very inspirational to say the least!
