A comment on Talk: Marc Goodman: A vision of crimes in the future

Jul 22 2012: What annoys me slightly about this is his examples of people who need protecting; who apparently are the richest and most priviledged people in the world. 'The second richest man in India', the Heads of state of the countries including the Queen, Gordon Brown, Obama etc. What's problematic about this for me is that we're constantly reading about how 'The Rich', 'The Elite' are hiding their money away in off-shore accounts, and the gap between the rich and poor is growing wider, which brings me to my second point: his use of the words 'Good and Evil'.
Should we assume automatically that these rich global elites are good, and that poor, uneducated extremists are evil, because that seems to be what he's implying?
Thirdly, when it comes to the 50,000 victims of drug cartels in Mexico - wouldn't a more tolerant understanding of what drugs are and what drug addiction is; internationally, help address these problems on a policy level? I still don't understand why it's illegal to own use, or sell something that changes your mind or body, makes you think more creatively work more effectively or frees you from the worries and stresses of the daily grind which so many poor people are enslaved by, especially when they're being enslaved by the policies of a very small minority of over privileged, unfailrly entitled rich elites?
Why is it a crime to own or smoke cannabis, or cocaine? In fact the governments have lost control of the 'drug war' because of their hypocrisy, greed and stupidity.

So if bio-terrorism is a clear and present danger, lets address the real problems instead of criminalising each other for our civil choices.

Fewer "Crimes" means fewer "Criminals"; means fewer gateways to serious crime and a more open and tolerant society. Seems to me that those people he's so keen on protecting are much more a part of the problem than a part of the solution.

Peer 2 Peer Democracy: Bitcoin. Lets get moving.

Jun 8 2012: Also, I think maybe you need to keep a score tab, of how many pennies have been donated, and have a website which logs it, with a 'top ten' type chart. Maybe a 'top 100'

Jun 8 2012: Thing is, I like the idea of giving more than a penny, like 10cents or 10p, but I don't like the idea of vetting. I don't like the idea of doing anything other than 'throwing a penny in the hat' - a penny is small enough to not worry about - you could give ten away without noiticing or caring...

The more complex it gets the worse. Keep it simple I think. Kickstarter and Indiegogo are really the places where this type of thing can happen with campaigns.

Jun 3 2012: Yeah, I see what you're saying, I think I was just making a general statement about the relatedness of people.
Just because we look the same doesn't mean we are the same, and just because the technology we've adopted to carry out tasks and functions in the world has legs feet and arms, it doesn't necessarily follow that we shouldn't knock each other over if one process is interfering with the potential to develop in another process.

Like Iranians and Israelis, you look at one on TV, speaking a different language, denouncing the other, because they have fundamental differences of opinion about the future of democratic, theological and imperial development.

At the very least if no one else forces you to take sides, they might.

Jun 3 2012: I agree with this in principle and find it sad that the wealth is not distributed more evenly in a time of crisis, and even more, that we as human beings are not geared towards the distribution of wealth towards those who need it most.
But one thing i would say is that looking at things from a purely biological level (i.e. single origin theory as applied by paleoanthropologists) is just a single way of evaluating our development.

You could (for example) hold a de-centralised network view of interdependent arising. That would be modular. Different processes adopting different biological technologies and platforms in order to achieve their end-goals. Humanity as platform. Religions as Opertating Systems, Languages as operating environments. States as apps etc.

My point is that there is more than one way of slicing your existence, more than one way of creating meaning. We're family, for now, temporarily, the way all laptops are laptops. But different brands are still different, and different businesses will have to compete for more market share, more energy, more capital.

    Think Different Strokes

Jun 3 2012: One thing I noticed whilst discussing this with someone was the question of how you get people to sign up to and embrace the service. I think people would have to 'want' to do it, actively, and they'd want to be able to see the bigger picture. Ultimately though, if you're creating content, then you are going through an uploading process that is at least as complicated as signing up to a Pennysharing account.

If content CREATORS sign up to it first so they can swap pennies with other content creators, you might get a community of Pennysharers quickly who support the idea enough for it to go viral. Then that would drive others to sign up for it regardless of whether they're creating content or not.
