More About Me

I'm passionate about

African Politics and Africa's place in the global space as well as government reforms to benefit the people of the great continent.

An idea worth spreading

Africa needs to create mechanisms and a plan to mobilize and tap into the social capital, financial and material resources of the Diaspora. The collective intellectual capacity, skills, social capital and economic power could lift the continent out of poverty. My idea is to create a mechanism that allows for first, the Zimbabwean Diaspora and global citizens to play a constructive role in rebulding Zimbabwe. A network of students, professionals and global citizens, organized under the auspices of an A-POLITICAL institution could have a larger impact on the economic, health, education sectors.

  • A comment on Talk: Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala: Want to help Africa? Do business here

Jun 5 2007: Great speech and the ideas about political reform are really needed for most of Africa. That said, it is essential that we not create a situation where only those with capital reap the benefits of being on the continent. The trickle down economics have not worked even for the Western World, so we need to be careful about how we approach economic development. Nigeria certainly needs to invest some of that money in infrastructure development to provide a conducive environment for people wanting to do business as well as the general citizenry. What seems to work now are industries that do not rely on other external infrastructure to be fully functional. There are a lot of Nigerians abroad who send money home and are interested in being part of the new Africa, but I am afraid that most of the governments in Africa have not figured out a way to embrace their diaspora. Instead, they are suspicious of fellow Africans who come back and would rather do business with foreigners. Now, if we are talking about an African solution to African problems, we need to start embracing the diaspora. Check out more on wwww.africanviewpoint.blogspot.com
