Why are we here in a body and a life that I don't recall choosing from the beginning?
Are you stating this from the point of view that "we" existed before choosing this body ? Or Are you stating this from the point of view that what we have done to ourselves in the past few years ? Something like we have not taken care of our health, not taken care of where our life is heading ? I think most philosophies find interest in differentiating life from body and want to get a feeling that we will continue to live in future too, even after our body dies. This is probably because the body seems to age and we are inclined to believe that mind is not aging and we somehow deep inside want to believe that mind will continue after the body and this mind or soul as we would like to term is immortal.

How can we use technology to solve traffic related issues ?
I think there are 3ways to tackle this - technology to manage the traffic ( timing the signals/rework work hours to ease traffic/) - technology to manage the people ( train/educate/routes/alternate routes/lane discipline) - technology for the city planners, give them tools which tells them how to plan the city/roads/drainage/flyovers/ I think 2/1 are easier But option 3 is really mandatory. Currently there is no accountability for the planners. I think the countries topmost brains should actually work on this problem - the IIT/ IIM/ IAS likes, this is because the entire economy of a country ( fuel, stress, transportation, inflation ) etc depend totally on infrastructure.

Why can't learn to listen to both our hearts and minds, instead of only listening to one?
I think the mind creates this duality. In reality it is the same logic that is driving us to think that there should be something better than me ( mind ). At the same time it makes us think as a heart and say the mind is a lesser ( as in bad ) version of me. The truth is at a much higher level of cognition and appears when we silence the mind. But immediate question that your mind puts is, but is it possible to maintain this state for long. The answer is to just realize this and smile at yourself :) Had a post on this lines long back. http://ibirth.blogspot.in/2010/07/conscious-mind-honest-interface-battle.html

Is there a simple remedy to counter depression
I think the key is not to think through your logical mind on how to counter it. More like settling a muddy water. You just need to let it to settle without forming theories about it. Please feel free to comment on it. http://ibirth.blogspot.in/2010/07/conscious-mind-honest-interface-battle.html

To come up with a way to detect runtime threats in the modern world
It should use biometrics( face , finger print, retina scanner), DNA if possible, etc. Now this falls into the science/tech category more so because we need a system that should be fast ( unlike DNA) to exactly map an individual to his identity. Apart from this any person should be forced to carry a card with him which has some Radio Devices that transmit the identity of the person. Having such a system the law enforcers/police/govt intelligence agencies have what is a querrying system through which most of the important data about a person is retrieved on the spot, picture, whereabouts, etc. The data could be retrieved by a satellite managing the entire database. In important secure places an installation can scan for suspects and the data of any individual will be readily available to the law enforcers. If the identity is being faked, etc he can be further identified by the picture, biometrics, etc. This kind of system although looks like science fiction, should come into existence soon. At the pinnacle the satellite systems would be scanning for unusual patterns in the movement of individuals. The cops would have devices which will aid them in finding out who the individual is, on the spot. The computers/internet access from cyber cafe etc can be captured through the biometrics or the identify system. Ofcourse such a identity system should be fool proof. Now getting to the basics. So what does such a system do to the crime/criminals. Fear!! the fear of being identified. This may not stop people from committing crime but atleast it will reduce for sure. If NOT we can atleast catch the criminals!!!! So such a system ensures justice in the worst case. Today the terrorists are not even being traced. Law is clueless on who/what/when whereabouts. I don't think any nation would want to end up being clueless and helpless on such brutality meted out to innocent people. Well its time we took the first step towards IDENTITY, before we lose ours !!!!!!!
