A comment on Talk: Tristram Stuart: The global food waste scandal

Oct 4 2012: This is an excellent talk, giving the hope that by consuming food smartly, we can keep feeding the growing world population. Consuming efficiently could also reduce our agriculture footprint.

Is there a global organization that can actually look at the big sources of food waste and convert wasted food into human consumable products with longer shelf life? If not, I think there is a great opportunity here. I think companies will be more motivated in providing their waste for a good cause of feeding hungry people compare to any other use of that food.

Sep 29 2012: I agree with you on most of the things Bob. I do think that there is a social responsibility to take care of people that are going through hardship or cannot take care of themselves because this is the basic foundation of human society. However, I do agree that people should not be allowed to take advantage of society's generosity.

On the leadership question, do you see that kind of leadership emerging or where is the potential of such leadership development?

Sep 28 2012: It is a very good response. Have you seen Tristram Stuart's The global food waste scandal?

Sep 24 2012: What you have said about believing in actions is so true. I really like your logic and hope that everyone believes in words that are backed by the actions.

Sep 24 2012: In the big scheme of things, yes, you are right Roy. However, our challenge is more imminent. What do you think of more short-term, like next 100 or 200 years?
  • A reply on Conversation: Do you believe that our future is bright, if yes, why and if not, why not?

Sep 24 2012: Good points Peter. Being from the same generation, I can relate to what you are saying.

Why do you think people feel the need for robots when lots of people are jobless? Is it because we want to pay less for the things or is it because industrialists and businessmen want more profit? If a choice was given, would people opt for little expensive products in favour of human factor in the making of it?

A comment on Talk: Rachel Botsman: The currency of the new economy is trust

Sep 23 2012: Beauty is in the eye of beholder :-). In my opinion, trust is a subjective assessment of safety, performance and reliability in the context of a specific assignment. Credit Rating is a rating of trust in the context of lending money to someone.

I would trust my doctor with my life for as long as I believe that my doctor has the experience in the type of health problem I am facing. You got the idea :-)

Online trust has to be in the context of something or some action. Let’s look at few examples of its applications:
    - Buying or selling good
    - Buying or selling services
    - Hiring someone as an employee
    - Engaging someone in social collaboration
    - Becoming friend with someone or date

One will realize very quickly that for each one of these categories, there are many different factors that are needed to be considered in order to rate their trustworthiness.

In the absence of such context, it the general character of a person, that one can try to assess like if they lie, do they honour their commitments, etc. This kind of rating could be helpful but it will be very subjective and legal consequences could be enormous for someone to do it, unless it is self-managed. However, if it is self-managed than it would be hard to believe because of the conflict of interest.
