How do we get back the neighborhood?
Any Social Media - is always an international one. because they need international outlook. In fact with this media, we have "International neighborhood" where we feel we are interacting with lots of people. I suggested to an IT professional - to start a La facebook - "back-pack.com" or "backyard.com" -- which should be only for that particular city only, for only those people in certain trade - like Software -back-pack or Designer -backpack or butcher -backpack or say - Dubai-backyard.com where only dubai residents will be allowed to mingle with, like only software engineers will be allowed to mingle with. By which -- we can real time - neighbourhood on-line - this is actually called social media web sites where we all speak the language we know, fashion we care, motives we gad etc., The developer of this idea can have 10 or 20 social media sites - political-back-pack.com, New Delhi.backyard.com; James Town.backyard.com like wise. I am not looking at FB page for particular area where some how or other a person like me would like to enter and spoil the game. Any comments??

What is the 1 Question you'd ask or Idea you'd share with the TED Team ?
I am not an engineer and I do not know any thing about electronics or sensors. Yet, I saw a handycam of Sony where when I want to shoot a picture, I saw an icon of Human flashing there. Then I moved it around for a long shot, I saw a tree icon replaced the human icon, when I projected towards sky, then I found clouds icon was there. I was astonished and thought whether these icons can have sounds - so to say - garden, people etc., and if we attach a ear plug can we hear that sound. If that is the case can we input more icons - like bus, troly, car, train, big wall, open drain, gathering, lamp post etc., and with sounds so that - a blind man can wear this handy cam and walk without stick and can hear what is opposite to him?? Is it possible? If it is possible, then we can even input the script of English language and give sound to that...???? Any one in TED convey this to Sony people??? It will help the blind people. This is my idea...

What does society means to you? And, do you think ours is working?
Either in India or in US - ( both are democratic countries) politics are based on different kind of beliefs and ideologies. Where as the erstwhile Soviet Union's ideology was giving a strong social safety net where every one will get same payment and government was only dolling out the opportunities and contribute to the society. What is Society? In fact there is no such thing called Society. When we are in trouble, when we are in need and when we are alone - we talk about society and ethics. If we are running a good enterprise or making good money - we may not bother about it. So long we stay in our home, we live as we like, eat what we can afford and like. We have no dress code in our home, table manners and no strict rules etc., But the moment we step outside, we look around for shoes, ironed trousers, neat face, - in fact we try to compare ourselves with others and really wanted to out do others by wearing costly dress etc., We follow certain rules and codes and we insist on freedom of speech and freedom of work etc. We will not tolerate any limitations or conditions or censor. In a democracy - you chose the people to manage YOU. As there is a free speech and independence - we are allowed to propagate and create a following for our ideas, ( if we can). All the societies are working -- OR we feel they are working. Because the so called society is a myth, self generated concept, an ideal, feel-good factor and a comfort zone created for each one. Compare to the living conditions ( I would like to rename it instead of calling Society) what we democratic countries are enjoying - with those countries like Syria or Iran or Cuba etc., we should be tankful to our forefathers.

How do you deal with introvert vs. extrovert tensions?
In the case of Introverts - decision making is taking long time because they check the pros and cons and would like to see the many alternatives and may not be able to decide on any one. The problem with extrovert is Instant decision making and it is a dangerous trend. You have to call the fire fighters when dealing with extroverts. My son used ask me " I need space - give me time to decide" - It is not space, in fact you need some one close to you to certify that your idea or decision is good. For extroverts - no support is needed because they don't bother about consequences. The best thing is -- look around, select a good friend - particularly whose wave lengths matches with yours.. whether male or female - no issues - discuss everything except this extro or intro issues. When I was in late 30s an young lady ( colleague) met me and we became friends, close friends. Whatever I speak - she used to encourage me, praise me, ask me doubts, give me such a kind of support - I learned computer without going to any institute and trained all the office staff. So you need some one, some one on whom you can have good confidence.

How do you deal with introvert vs. extrovert tensions?
Extroverts: For them everything is a problem and that has to be solved at once other the world will fall next moment. My daughter ( Extrovert) She goes to office and send me an email asking my approval to resign, when I was busy with my work. I used to say: "Please wait" then she comes to chatting in the next second " How long, Dad?" Wait till I finish my discussion with my client - Oh You are busy with office work? Yes, can you hold your resignation till I finish? Oh! Dad, I can wait till evening .. Take care of your client. That was how I used to handle her. By the time she comes home and I reached home expecting and preparing myself about handling her, she was on the mobile talking to many people and then say hello to me and go to bed. Introverts - my son I start watching the TV and he comes there and start watching... For an hour nothing happens - both are seriously busy in watching the TV. " I don't understand why people are celebrating these festivals? he will say. Yes.. ( that's all) Silence ... Dad - do you ever participate in every function in your office - every function?? " What is function? and why they should celebrate functions? I ask "That is my question "- he gets encouragement. The functions are invented to bring all kinds of people on a same level playing ground. What do you mean? - his doubt. As you know all people are not made with fixed measure of knowledge, intelligence, wisdom etc. There are always difference in degrees of these capacities or wisdom etc., So, some people talk too much, few people only listen, many people fake and certain people do have ideas but may not be in a position to express...So these meetings will enable them to bring with par with other people. " This way, I size the people, for extroverts immediate NO is danger, accept and agree with them and postpone it and then handle them. Introverts - best thing is discuss the subject deeply and then advise them.

Some people are talking about changing the world! why don't I change myself to reflect it on the world I want to live in?
The word “change” is like “sex” – every one wants it but no one accepts it openly. It has become a fashion to use the words ‘Change”; “Innovation” “Social Media” etc., The people who talks about change are the very people who stand like a rock to obstruct the change. And there is a theory that “You can not change any one” – at the most, the other person acts as if he has changed, so you will be happy. On the other hand – we as individual – continue to follow the process of change. Change is inevitable. The change is in the nature. But expect that and assume that the other person is not changing. As a matter of fact he is also changing – in his own way – but not as you have expected or anticipated.

What can fiction tell us?
Fiction is the medium to guide us, to make us knowledgeable and unearth the commonsense and to reduce the dependence. The “Panchatantra” is the book which was actually created to infuse the knowledge to the sons of a great ancient king. The stories – centuries old – are still relevant in present days.

Why do we have to pay to gain knowledge?
Any thing which you get or comes as free has got no value. A price less advice, unasked recommendation for a job, volunteered help for suggestion to your boss – will always taken with pinch of slat. The value factor is what everyone look around and the greater amount you pay the great value is attached to that knowledge. Presently most of the things we can learn from Google, gain knowledge and become wiser. I was surprised when some one was asking his assistant a clarification with a caution that he should not Google it, as he has already looked into the Google. The theory is that free knowledge is under valued.
