An idea worth spreading

All education online versus in schools. This would make what our children learn equal no matter where we live. Take classes online at your own pace. Kids would stay home which would force businesses to allow parents to work from home, which would greatly decrease gasoline consumption. I know about all of the caveats of doing this and I believe that we are intelligent enough to work around ALL caveats related to this, because we NEED to do this.

A reply on Talk: Melinda Gates: Let's put birth control back on the agenda

May 28 2012: You do have a point in that (I believe) that families were promoted to INCREASE population in order to have a larger military-aged population. The government benefits for married couples (I feel) were to promote families and having children. That is why we are reluctant to give these benefits to same-sex marriages. We need to stop giving benefits for married couples and for having children.
There are so many women in Milwaukee, Wisconsin who are taking advantage of what Wisconsin offers to families with a lot of children. So they are having children to get the benefits (and in many cases with different fathers who are not raising the kids). It has created a cycle of impoverished youth whose only hope is to have children so they can get government support.
We need to stop these benefits for married couples and for children. Like I stated in a previous post, after a certain number of children we need to start paying BACK to society rather than taking from it.
Having more babies than we can handle is a decision made that NOW affects the ENTIRE World, so I feel that we have a right to stop people from having too many children unless they can show the ability to support them without outside means of support.

May 28 2012: I agree, but Melinda may be inspiring those who may have more influence to the Pope.
Missionaries need to stop handing out Bibles and start passing out condoms.

May 28 2012: So what gets paid by our taxes ... Good things like government programs to help the needed and questionable things like helping to bailout big banks. Either way the taxes are used to help America and ultimately Americans of all cultures, skin color, and religion. Churches use their money to only benefit themselves either directly by providing support directly to their members or indirectly by doing missions to help disadvantaged people of other religions/cultures in order to promote their religion.
Either way, these churches/religions absolutely should pay taxes to support Americans (and peoples of the World).

A comment on Talk: Hans Rosling: Religions and babies

May 28 2012: Am not sure if anyone else mentioned this, I didnt have time to read all comments ... But, Hans' top box is for 60+, while the others were in 15 year groups. If medical/genetic/scientific advances allow us to live to 100+, then he will need rows for 75-90, 90-105, and so on.
His demo has 5 rows of 2 billion each, so for every 15 years of added life expectancy we will add 2 billion more people to the world.
I know people personally who are trying to have more children to advance "their" own religion to attempt to have more of "their" religion versus another person's religion. It sounds so crazy, but I think we all know people like this. Especially with all of the doomsday scenarios that we are subjected to.
The people I know who are doing this are one of three religions - Christian, Mohammeden, and Mormon.
Saying "my religion" can only destroy peace, something I feel that the originators of any religion was not expecting. So I am all for restricting the number of children allowed by each couple, with benefits for those who have fewer children and "pay-ins" for those that go over. The "pay-ins" should be Acts of Unity versus the act of segregating. So if a family of Catholics has more than the allotted number of children, then they must perform Acts of Unity at a nearby Mosque or Hindu Temple.
Hans was very clever with his boxes and people are more inclined to believe something if it is presented in a clever way. Just go to any Christian church on Sunday.
  • A comment on Conversation: Use social networking platforms and persistent online user data to serve public rather than private ends and combat climate change.

Mar 7 2012: I love the idea! Investment firms could make quicker investment decisions if they knew what our energy usage was in real time. They could pay Facebook for the information and what we need to do is convince Facebook to pay us a percentage for allowing them to have our data. Currently Facebook and Twitter have convinced us to give us all the information for free ... quite the con game. At least this way we would benefit for being a participant.
And similarly, I was thinking about the info we provide Google or Apple when we sign up for GPS tracking. State and Local governments are in need of new ways to generate income. So, what if Google and Apple had to pay your local government for info on "their" citizens/residents? Google and Apple can sell the information to companies that could offer in-depth and real time traffic information based on GPS information. Then they would pay a certain percentage of this info back to our local governments!
The information we can provide (in real time!) to these large corporations could create huge amounts of money for our local governments! I can foresee the day when no taxes are needed! I will hold my elimination of the IRS for a future topic.

A comment on Conversation: Connect humankind on a forward trajectory of dreams & desires... with one simple idea....

Mar 7 2012: Hmm, my dream for everyone is to make education, religion, and politics open on the internet. We need a website for the most intelligent intellectuals to determine the accuracy of everything and we the people can make our judgements based on what we see.
The intelligent could decide what needs to be taught for each profession. Then anyone can take online courses to try to get a degree. And it should be free.
There should be a website for each religion which tackles important questions for intelligent people to discuss. The people will see the discussions and make their own decisions.
Each government would list the important topics and the intelligent will discuss these issues and allow the people vote on everything.
Basically my dream is for everyone to have a REAL voice versus one representative to make adecision on what they think the people want. This would eliminate most corruption.
  • A comment on Talk: Josette Sheeran: Ending hunger now

Mar 1 2012: We need to end this For-Profit World before we can have the dream of no hunger. It could all start with a handful of famously rich people doing the unthinkable and giving up their fortunes for this goal.

A comment on Conversation: THE "GLOBAL DEGREE". A CONCISE AND INNOVATIVE PROPOSAL THAT WILL REVOLUTIONIZE INTERNATIONAL HIGHER EDUCATION

Feb 27 2012: I love this idea! It should eliminate the way-too-expensive education now offered by our colleges. Current tuitions pay for University salaries, buildings, etc. These will all be eliminated with an online Global degree.
I am going to check out the Global Degree Project to see if I can help.
I just realized that Kyriakos is suggesting a parallel degree that will put a Global stamp on a current degree. I would say we shouldnt waste our time. We are way too close to creating JUST Global degrees and eliminating the high cost of higher education. This will eliminate Capitalisms role in the business of Universities, allow low-cost degrees for everyone, and ultimately incree technological advancement towards (hopefully) a better World.
