Eric X. Li: A tale of two political systems
I love how this talk incorporates evolution. That's really what constitutes something reliable; how able it is to adapt and evolve. I am convinced. Democracy is not the only political structure that works, and in its current state, it is becoming more and more inefficient. However, I believe that democracy also has the ability to evolve, and therefore, it's not completely hopeless. There are many things I don't understand about the CCP, and perhaps it is more adaptable than western political structures are right now.

Is the solution to "coding a better government" really to be bureaucratically active, or is it to tone down bureaucracy?
I have to agree. I've recently read Henry David Thoreau's "Civil Disobedience" and it makes some excellent points. Probably my favorite quote from that would be this, "Law never made men a whit more just; and, by means of their respect for it, even the well-disposed are daily made agents of injustice." The whole essay talks about how man's conscience has the supreme word over law. And I feel that's not how society currently works.

Jonathan Trent: Energy from floating algae pods
Oh my god! I freaking love this. I just came to the conclusion that society is always fighting nature and trying to be more like robots instead of part f the circle of life. But this is amazing! This is practically a man made organism! It completely re-enacts natural systems for the benefit of humanity. I love it!
