Apr 15 2013: Communism, like capitalism, would eventually begin to deteriorate and fail because, as you said yourself, capitalism has its own problems --and so does communism.
You mention that if communism was free from dictatorship would it be better than capitalism (that we have at present)?
The answer is technically yes, but look at it this way...
-If the wealthy in capitalism paid a relevant share and the federal government held the rights and representation of the people in their highest regard, capitalism would be excellent.
-If the government and states invested in their people in socialism, rather than simply sustaining, then socialism would be excellent.
-If Libertariansim kept a close consumer-focused observance of companies and states and could/would suddenly enact severe punishments for companies attempting to do something that would be a danger to the consumers, its staff or the economy,
then libertarism would be excellent.
The point here is that we have to draw a line between 'how a system works on paper' and 'how a system works in reality'.
Pure communism is consistently run by dictators for a reason,
Its what happens when you combine fallible and corrputable people with a questionable economic model,
just like any other model in its entirety.
This is why I'm a strong believer in taking workable parts of various models, add new parts and then be willing to adjust the values of each part in accordance with whats necessary at any given moment.
Apr 15 2013: I always hated the question because I've always found it to be malformed.
Its like asking 'where do you go after you die'.
Its assuming a foundational fact and you're supposed to answer accordingly, but the 'fact' hasn't been established that its even true, so its a false question.
If you want to ask 'what is the purpose', then you have to prove that a purpose specifically exists.
Ironically, doing so answers your question, so you ultimately invalidate the question either way..

Hulk: The positives and negatives of SMASSHHH!!!!
Batman: How I learned to live with a terribly soar throat
Wolverine: How a bullet inexplicably changed my life that one time..
Superman: Now you see me, *puts on glasses* now you don't..
Captian America: The rise of bio-engineering for a faster, stronger, happier you.
Obviously the changes incurred in Captain America were quite drastic, and essentially turned him from a weak and mostly average human into a superhero.
I.E/ Optimal physical standards.
Such technologies could vastly improve lifestyle, decrease negative health issues and extend the length of mobility in life.
A talk explaining the positives of the research would be pretty interesting.

'Free Markets work effectively and Controlled markets don't'
No, it isn't any where near as clear-cut as that. Some people here on this section of TED choose to believe that, but the entirety of either one is ultimately damaging to everyone because there are a series of advantages and disadvantages to both. Neither of which is infallible, as this article displays:
http://www.investopedia.com/articles/economics/08/free-market-regulation.asp
The end conclusion (that I happen to agree with) is that you can't go all-in with any one model.
It isn't beneficial to society for the government to subsidize one company over the other
and its certainly not beneficial to go to a company who wants to mass-pollute and give them a free pass to do as they please (for examples among 100's).
Apr 10 2013: Personally as a 'strong atheist' (I've heard it labelled that many times),
I only hold buddhism in a high regard (solely in comparison to my aggressive contempt for the abrahamic faiths) due to its appearance of being largely pacifist and non-confrontational.
Essentially, it collectively leaves me alone and therefore I leave it alone in response.
Now if I was in a country such as Thailand or Srilanka I may have a different opinion, but as it stands I have no reason to attack it or defend myself from it, directly or indirectly.
My position on the dalai-lama and the belief system on the other hand is ultimately the same as any other faith.
Superstition, faulty reasoning, lack of evidence, indoctrination and ruled by charlatans..
Apr 9 2013: If I was to go solely by what my impressions would be if dictated by the media: War, poverty, illness, mud-huts.
If I was to go solely by my personal exploration, knowledge through aid workers and friends (i.e/ What really comes to mind) :
Friendly people, short hair, singing, societal disparity through political issues.
I mentioned both because I do see why most people immediately think what they do when they hear 'Africa'.
We have a media that both
1. Focuses on the negatives for the sake of profits
2. Has persistent commercials that ask for aid
This makes Africas problems (Sub-saharan Africa, I should be saying) a statistical nightmare for its plight to be seen disporportionately.
Apr 9 2013: I think what is both quite unfortunate and equally beneficial is that what I tended to learn about relationships in my childhood...is what not to do in a relationship...
I suppose the main five traits I received would have been:
1. Never be disloyal to your partner
2. Always communicate when there is an issue
3. Never accept a partner who you could describe as 'not good enough'
4. Shouting, screaming and violence accomplish little/nothing
5. Children shouldn't have to deal with or even be aware of adult problems and concerns.
I think the central foundation to what I learned about relationships is that its always best to only consider a person for a possible relationship after objective thought and contemplation as to whether they're ultimately suited for you.
Personally it has always worked well for me as I've yet to have a relationship end that was the result of my actions and within my control (albeit the reasons are all the more annoying, such as them leaving the country etc etc)
But I suppose on reflection, even the negatives provided me with constructive conclusions, so it was still positive, even when it wasn't.
Apr 9 2013: First thing is to Patent anything remarkable and/or profitable.
Its not for the sake of greed like some people may immediately assume (you can open-source or lease out the licences in return for minor royalties), its about making sure everyone knows you came up with it AND making sure someone greed-oriented doesn't patent it first.
Ofcourse exactly WHO you talk to from there on depends entirely on your product/idea/research.
Can you give an example idea?
Also what country you're in, as it may vary the answer.
Apr 8 2013: Licence withdrawal aside (lets take this from another angle).
Can someone provide me a list of the relevant research of the individuals which have been published as peer-reviewed papers, and if they haven't/can't, can it be explained exactly what the reason is for that, if one exists?
I want to see what the determination on the subject is with the scientific community itself, as opposed to various sides outside of the peer-review level attempting to make that determination.
thanks.
Apr 7 2013: 1. But we ultimately have product placements here on TEDas it is, only its categorized with all other talks and the information about them for the people who wish to know more is lacking.
