Before going to deeper philosophical aspects of origin of life and its evolution, I would prefer to look at the smaller tangible phenomenon like our subject. Why this will be an interesting study is that, we have data(fossil records, genetic information of species and knowledge about how these work). I am interested in looking at it in a different perspective. Chaos theory is incredibly interesting in its universality. You can apply it to the big bang and the dynamics of a liquid in a tea cup.

May 7 2012: To start with you can read these books: Chaos: making of a new science by James Gleick http://amzn.to/J6XkYF or Does God Play Dice? The New Mathematics of Chaos by Ian Stewart http://amzn.to/KyEIVito know more about the fascinating world of chaos. These are written for general public as readers.

May 7 2012: Life is not simple. But it was comparatively simpler. That is the whole point of chaos theory, that complex behavior can emerge from simple equations such as z = z^2 + c. Thus in our case, though we don't know the simple equation governing the process of life. But we already simplified it by figuring out the role of a molecular sequence genetic code in DNA. These rules must have been much much simpler at the beginning of life. And what we see today is after billions of iterations(imagine the lifespan of bacteria).

To clarify, there are organisms like fungus which have more than 2 sexes, but those are rare compared to the entire tree of life.
Am neither a scientist, I am qualified as an Electronics and Instrumentation engineer. But I am a free man, exploring the technology, resource and time we are getting today. Appreciate your enthusiasm. But the difference in morphology is high in organisms which are more complex like humans.
If the association with chaotic system is confirmed, I wish to find out the basic equation governing the whole complexity of life.

May 5 2012: The chaos theory is a hot research topic. Observations are that chaotic systems are predictable. But there are too complex systems which are difficult to predict. Here we are exploring parallels between observed chaotic systems with biological life.
Fractal nature is observed in many areas of life. The evolutionary tree of life is fractal like structure. Our body is a fractal pattern formed from cells. Fractal in the sense simple repetitive processes. Even the entire development of life is simple repetitive process. Birth-reproduction-death. We just don't have a good mathematical model of an organism.
The parallel between chaotic systems and life is that, something as complex as human body evolved from repetitive process of DNA/RNA like molecule replication. We are dealing with very abstract concept. But the similarities are striking.
