How to summarize myself in 5000 characters? I suppose basics suffice. I'm a student currently attending the University of Missouri-Columbia currently trying my hand at this whole journalism thing, a move that a lot of people consider quite a stupid one given the way the industry's looking lately. After growing up in a fantastic urban setting (Nothing like the Twin Cities and Minnesota nice!)I have high aspirations for my professional life and a drive and desire to see that my goals get reached. However, I am (and think I always will be) a kid at heart. I do what makes me happy, try to chase after new and exiting opportunities and experiences, and add a little spontaneity into my routine. While working for a top-notch media company or on the campaign trail is a great professional dream I hope to make a reality one day, I'll be just as happy living in a small place on the East Coast surrounded by good friends and supported by my loving family.
finding a passion. Whether it's music or writing or school or books or sports or whatever, it's important to care about something. My personal passions include school, books, and classical music.
What does it really take to be "happy?" So many movies feature these characters that have all the money, fame, and power they could ever want, but they're not happy in the end. It's the poor underdog that winds up succeeding. I realized a few months ago that having a lot of money or an expensive brownstone isn't going to make me happy once I enter the "real world." What's going to make me happy is having powerful relationships and loving what you're doing and where you're headed in life. Happiness is a personal formula that one would do well to calculate early.
anything and everything! I love a good debate, interesting angles, and fascinating juxtapositions in particular.
digging up dirt. I know how to use my resources wisely!
My TED story is still evolving. I was introduced to TED by a biology teacher in high school that turned out to be one of the more influential teachers I've been lucky enough to work with. My story is still a work-in-progress though, and will be for awhile. I strongly believe it's not that hard in life to be nice to those around you, and like places like the TED community where ideas can be discussed in a pleasant atmosphere. Hopefully I can grow and evolve and contribute to such a 'nice' community.
