An idea worth spreading

Question everything, but don't continue once you have an answer. Actually listen to music sometime, you'll hear much more when music is your focus. Don't follow any religion because you think that you fall into the typical stereotype of that religion.

Talk to me about

Music, christianity, science, literature, pretty much anything, but I can't promise I'll understand right away.

  • A reply on Conversation: What moment in history do you wish you could have witnessed?

Dec 17 2011: I also believe it would have been in Aramaic, and since it is fantasy to imagine we could go back I time, I figured why not imagine I could understand the language also :-)
  • A reply on Conversation: Can we abolish nationalism and live in a globalized society?

Dec 17 2011: Do I think that we could yes, do I think that we practically can without an enemy, probably not. People can unite without an enemy to fight, most are just too stubborn or close-minded to care unless there is something to fight.
  • A reply on Conversation: What moment in history do you wish you could have witnessed?

Dec 17 2011: I know, however Mr. Jefferson's ideals are some of the most influential to me, and I'm sure despite his inhibitions he managed to have at least one truly amazing speech.

A reply on Conversation: Humanism should be the only religion.

Dec 17 2011: The path to following Christianity is not a strict dogma. The basic tenets of Christianity are simple. A) Jesus Christ dies for your sins and came back to life. B) He is the Lord. C) Love God, and love your neighbors as yourself. All other "rituals" fall by the wayside, and are often the same kinds of rules that Jesus denounced as hypocritical and proud. You cannot say man was born free of sickness and disease because infants are often extremely sick, and according to what I've heard (so correct me if I'm wrong) the earliest stages of life are supposed to mimic the "evolutionary" process.

Furthermore, where is it documented that greed and insecurity came at the same time as religion? How do you know that the Neanderthals or earlier supposed human precursors did not steal from others out of greed, or act tougher because of insecurities?

Hinduism is a religion, as there are gods that must be obeyed, or consequences will result. The purest form of christianity says solely to love the creator and love others. Tell me which is truly more dogmatic?

Fair warning: I am still in high school and therefore may be wrong in a couple of facts. Forgive me if I am mistaken.
  • A comment on Conversation: Why is it that everyone dreads, fears, remorses death when that is the most blatant and absolute truth and predictable in most cases?

Dec 17 2011: I think because it is pretty much the only thing that is inevitable, it causes people to fear it since they know it's coming, and it's obviously the end of time (on earth that is) it is dreaded.
  • A comment on Conversation: Can we abolish nationalism and live in a globalized society?

Dec 17 2011: I believe that the world could live without EXTREME nationalism and hatred, and would be much better, however if you are thinking that countries should practically be done away with, and land is just land I disagree.
  • A comment on Conversation: Humanism should be the only religion.

Dec 17 2011: True Christianity advocates loving everyone with mutual respect and concern. Hate the sin, not the sinner. Therefore I disagree, it is people's fault that they do not practice their religion in the way it is meant to be practiced. I would say that, with my limited knowledge of other religions, even other religions practiced in the way they were intended would cause people to have mutual respect and concern as you say. No person can follow everything perfectly, so even having one religion not everyone (in fact very few) would truly follow the ideas.
  • A comment on Conversation: What moment in history do you wish you could have witnessed?

Dec 17 2011: Well... I would say the Sermon on the Mount, because I'm partial to Jesus :-), however in modern-ish history I would say any speech from Thomas Jefferson.

This isn't necessarily an historical event however meeting C. S. Lewis would be amazing!
  • A comment on Conversation: If/when same-sex marriage is legalised, should ALL religious bodies be required by law to perform same-sex marriage ceremonies?

Dec 16 2011: I am a Christian and I don't agree with gay marriage, however I believe that government shouldn't be based upon religion, and therefore I don't have an opinion on whether or not it should be legal, however I think that the specific church/temple/mosque or what have you should have the decision not to marry homosexuals. I say this because if the church (broad term) disagrees with gay marriage they should not be forced to perform it. My church doesn't allow couples who are living together to get married in our church with our pastor. That's their rule, and they shouldn't be forced to change their views. You can always find another church, maybe even within the same religion, that would perform the marriage. I can't speak for Scotland however specifically, since I live in the United States.
