Oct 8 2012: IMO, the term "faking it" here is about how you feel yourself. On the surface, you have a lot of fear about whatever it is - let's say public speaking - and just don't feel capable. Faking it is a means of coping just to get past the fear and insecurity. After enough work, it no longer feels like faking it. The self doubt is gone and you can focus on just saying what you have to say. That's incredibly empowering once you've got it down.
Call it what you want, but the term "fake" actually isn't bad or inaccurate when you are starting down the path towards overcoming fear.
Oct 8 2012: Dead on, Olivia and Cecilia. Deep down, we have abilities that we know are incredible. It can be our own insecurity that keeps us from leveraging what makes us special. That's very difficult to achieve and doesn't happen overnight. Although the term "fake it" bugged me a little, I understand the context. She's talking about battling through the confidence problems until they just aren't an issue any more.
Oct 8 2012: Amy's story blew me away. I watched it on a plane while I was in the middle of writing a blog entry on self confidence. Her engagement at the beginning held me but the talk didn't get compelling until she told her personal tale. The "fake it" comment rubbed me a little wrong but it resonated with me as someone who has been through it. But she really lived it. I can only imagine the courage and will power that took.

Jun 1 2012: I understand the irony of posting this to Facebook and discussing it. That's what I did though. I've been watching some TED talks and then blogging about them. Most of the time, conversations about it end up on my FB account. Many of those are actually beneficial and have some substance to them. I personally think it's enabling to use social media to discuss deeper problems. It's important to be able to reach out when you work remotely as I do. It's just tough not to let it dominate your life.

A comment on Conversation: Faking suggests something quite negative, if we are able to do it then we have it within us... Perhaps just change the term faking?
