About Me

My City 2.0

My idea operates on the fundamental assumption that we will continue to do things that we want to do, which is the current way and always will be the way the world operates on some level, if you open your mind a bit, this is our way of living sustainably.

We talk about overpopulation, but only live on 1/3 of the surface area of the globe.
The city i envision will be on water, and will operate how society does now. However it will be fully sustainable. What ever we consume, no matter what the rate of consumption is, we can make use of the "waste." Right now, at my school im currently involved in a competition that does just this. However i do not see it as a competition, i see it as an opportunity to move forward with this idea. This is how my city will be powered.

Out of this process, fertilizer is obtainable from the all "waste", and that will be used to grow food. This is how my city will be fed.

Using the same digestion process to produce energy from waste, the gas will be used to convert into hydrogen gas to be used in fuel cells in cars/trucks. This is how my city will transport itself.

My city will not be limited to these options to move forward and will openly accept new ideas. In order to aid that process, the city will be build with an infrastructure such that it will be easier to change what is currently in place. People want to change fundamentally, why not base the way we live our lives and perceive the world around that?

This is what i want to work for in my life time. I want to find people who want do achieve this regardless if they might work or not. Because if someone believes it will work, then it will work. All it takes is people playing the part in the way they want to. I believe that i am that someone. I believe that we all can be that someone.

It may seem crazy but teleportation is possible as long as you can keep thinking of ways of how it can be done. As far as crazy ideas go, i think even being born is crazy. I mean how can i go from not existing, to writing this message now?

May 11 2012: Hold the applause, haven't accomplished what i wanted to yet. A lot of work still needs to be done.
  • A comment on Conversation: How do we lessen the gap between the rich and the poor?

May 10 2012: i think it comes down to the rich trying to create opportunities to enable the poor to seek ways of becoming productive in a society.I honestly feel like at least in USA if there were an initiative to do more urban farming and employing and teaching the poor to grow and sell food to local stores (Chain or mom/pop) it would help alleviate some of the stress and the age of our farmers in USA is only getting older at the same time its costing more to transport goods. it could also be seen as a cost cutting mesure on part of large corporations to seek to buy produce from local and urban farmers.

I can imagine the transportation costs this could help cut down as well as let up the stress on our decaying infrastructure. im trying to start do a start up with my friend now to start to adress this problem. were trying to meet with local farmers near our city but i hope to create some kind of training/vocation program to teach the homeless how to grow food and be able to take their skills into the city and help with the local economy
  • A comment on Conversation: Technology doesn't create loneliness, it reveals it. Once revealed, technology can help alleviate isolation and spur connection.

Apr 9 2012: I'd have to agree, the internet has managed to transform many industries so far and continues to transform while being evermore so engrained in our culture and in the youth. The future only looks bleak to those who can not let go of their egotisical notions of what it means to be in touch with another person. I can envision the future where the internet connects families in NYC directly to farmers in Såo Paulo and friends in Queensland. The coorperations of the future will be those who can aid this, because the coorperations of the now are old and waiting to be disrupted. When i see directors from MNC's show up at lean start up meetings, i know that they are trying to adapt, but their CEO's and the time it takes to make desicions in this old model will die, and i hope to help bury it like many young entrepreneurs.

Feb 21 2012: Thanks for the comment!

I feel that right now, we do have the frame work to move us forward. It's just going to take time to connect people more personally through the internet than what we have now.

Thats why im trying to start local, I have already started contacting business who are interested and i will continue too.

It was never about being perfect, but its about trying. I may not be able to account for all the wants of the people, but i can at least try to by listening to what they have to say.

A comment on Conversation: How can students be interested in studying more?

Feb 14 2012: Well you got to find something you actually like doing for fun, then try to find a major to do it for school.
If not, then try living your life for what you like to do, then figure out a way to make money off of it.
I made it into one of the best colleges in the world, and you know what? I'm taking time off from it, because i realized that i rather use what i know/ like to do now and do it for a living. It seems hard, but untill you actually try it will always be impossible. You just have you find your own way and stick with it (you will if you dont want to do anything else), at least thats what im trying right now.

and im also working with a local contact in RI to take a entire island off the gird (80,000 people) using a similar system im trying to develop with my group for the contest.(converting waste to biogas, to use to create hydrogen for a hydrogen fuel cell to power the university)

Jan 3 2012: precisely! that would cover machining/infrastructure in such a city.

and for farming thats why i hinted at using the digeste from biogas digesters as fertilizer for food instead of relying of heavily processed fertilizers.

well the idea is feasiible its just getting people to fund it :P but for now i guess im going to try doing my projects on land ha
  • A reply on Conversation: My City 2.0

Jan 3 2012: Yeah i actually heard about it and looked into and everything. One thing that i didn't like about it was i actually want to work on projects as well as design them, and they do a bit too much talking and not enough trying to start something up. But that was just my perception of it.
I think we do have enough resources to do this, i wanted to talk about using the stockpiled crates in ship yards due to our trade deficit with contracts that produce most of our products. Of course feasibility studies will have to be done, but im sure the government would love the space they currently use so i think they would be willing to sell them for cheap.
And a city will only maintain a standard of living if it holds that exception of the powers that govern it and makes them accountable. We dont have enough of that now, but its something that will always need to be worked on, regardless of whether a city is on land, water or some colony in space.
  • A comment on Conversation: TED give us so many dreams, and what is your dream in 2012. How to achieve it?

Jan 2 2012: i want to develop a energy company around current waste disposal system in the united states, or at least be apart of an initiative with people who want to do that. that is one of my goals for 2012
