  • A comment on Conversation: Heart rate tracking bracelets connected

Jan 2 2013: I know these fitness bracelets, eg from nike, that monitor the heart rate. I think some of them send the data also to smartphones to analyse the data (eg the progress of the fitness of the body).
So all that would have to be done is to make an app for smartphone that sends an emergency call to relatives and / or doctors if the heart beats irregularly or stops to beat.
I think that would be an idea easy to realize that could save many lifes. I know 2 persons personally that died because they were found too late.
For me its just the question how to progress, so that it doesnt remain just an idea, but saves lifes.
Contact companies that produce such bracelets?
Go on a crowdfunding site like kickstarter to start the project?
Find a programmer on a freelancer homepage? Is there another homepage where you can find people willing to cooperate on projects with different skillls (eg programming)?

    What do you think?
  • A comment on Conversation: Can advertising be both a force for commerce AND a force for good?

Jan 18 2012: advertising is not stupid or insulting at peoples intelligence at all. we can learn important things by ads. people love stories, we define our life, our relationships, our personality by stories experienced and changed sometimes in our memory. stories are way more important than arguments or discussions. people are motivated by emotions and construct their selve and the world around them, make sense of life with stories.
So if we have an important issue, if we want to change the world, we should talk more in stories to motivate people, using the principles that work on people and that marketing agencies working for the corporate world discovered.
concerning corporations: i think its no bad thing that they want to position them positively by associating them with green technology, charity etc. in our social era with social networks everywhere we can create pressure on companies by detecting nuisances and demand green, fair products. if they advertise with these qualities, we can make a background check if its really true what their aiming by using social networks. we can also promote green companies by ourselve, eg. user-made ads for green, fair companies and by that creating a pressure on them and their competitors to reach these expectations. the goal would be to create this pressure by user made ads and campaigns, and create a global social network so that a company not being green and fair is not acceptable anymore on the market.
creating stories about making the world better instead of stories how to be more cool and sexy. changing the world is sexy.
  • A comment on Conversation: Artificial dam reservoirs for eco-friendly energy supply

Jan 5 2012: skyscrapers are the mountains of our modern world, additionally to the accumulated area of many scyscrapers in big cities, they offer a considerable height, so more energy can produced with generators in tubes going down the building (eg 4 tubes for every corner). i think a considerable amount of energy could be produced, which could be used directly for the building (illumination, hvac...)
the water could be used for watering plants and therefor be a part of the dream of a Green City.

also on every floor, around the building, trenches could be installed that collect water and transport it with pipes to a tank in the middle of the building. so more water can be stored, thus more electricity can be produced.

probably this water tank in the middle of the building, designed correctly, could be used for stabilizing skyscrapers during earthquakes thanks to the inertia of water?
  • A comment on Conversation: Artificial dam reservoirs for eco-friendly energy supply

Jan 4 2012: it would not take any energy if you collect the raining water with a heightened tank. the sun provides the energy, turning water in vapor and therefor creating position energy

A comment on Conversation: Can a TED members global community be created to facilitate and host every member who travels in others country ?

Jan 4 2012: a couchsurfing-software for TED enhanced with profiles, so people with the same / complementary interests can meet. travelling / experiencing new things could be connected with meeting interesting people which could lead to everything from interesting conversations / friendships / creating a company. it is always a big difference if you chat over the internet or if you meet a person in reality. i think it would be a big opportunity. we shouldnt be separated by distance anymore in the age of information.

A comment on Talk: Jane Fonda: Life's third act

Jan 4 2012: giving a third of our lifespan, 30 years, just the meaning of looking back and reframing memories so that we can feel better about ourselves... i dont know, thats a long time of just looking back. i think jane underestimates the power and will of old people to act and actually live a life full of experiences also in their old days
  • A comment on Conversation: Dream versus reality

Dec 26 2011: the thought came to me when i watched the film "I melt with you". At the beginning of the film you see words that come to mind when you wake up in the morning and remember who you are, what responsibilities you have. You wake up from being an innocent child dreaming to the person you became by circumstances and hopefully also choise.
In comparison the rest of the film is about a dream they had in youth and that they now remember as being adult, fully captchured by their daily life.
So i imagined: wouldnt it be a better world if we, instead of remembering reality and being prisoned in it the whole day, we would remember our dreams in our daily life and choose to change our action, to build our life in order to achieve this dream.

A comment on Talk: Craig Venter unveils "synthetic life"

Dec 20 2011: if we can inject dna in a cell and make the cell to change whatever the dna says, couldnt we use that to fight cancer cells. Inject cancer cells with dna of healthy cells and let them change to them.
probably a method should be found that this dna automatically recognizes cancer cells, infiltrate them automatically so lots of cancer cells could be fought at once.
  • A comment on Conversation: Making us smarter as key technology

Dec 19 2011: Everything that can be done will be done. If there is the technology that is highly beneficial for individuals, and they have the money / ressources to use it, they will, regardless of ethical, environmental or other implications / concerns. Its like the prolongation the life. If the technology is there, rich people will use it, regardless of concerns of world overpopulation. So the question is how to avoid abuse and use new technology for the best of humanity. but most likely if such technologies arise there will be abuse, battle against this abuse, and in this fight an equilibrium will emerge. like the free market: there are people benefitting, and abusing the system, so rules emerge to regulate it if we see the negative consequences.i could imagine a world where the rich benefit from new technologies, living longer, being smarter and healthier. there will be resistance from the poor, some regulations or systems to avoid revolutions (like our social system with money for the jobless just enough that not too much violence happens), but still abuse unfair distribution will happen.but we cant condemn a technology just because unfair distribution or abuse is likely. since we cant avoid it eitherway, we should think about scenarios / structures / organisations where this technology benefits the most of us.
