  • A comment on Conversation: How do you deal with introvert vs. extrovert tensions?

Mar 7 2012: Michael, I would first of all like to "second" the comments of Martha Love. She is right on the mark. I am an introvert and have found myself in numerous leadership positions throughout my life. These have usually been situations where I was asked to be the leader. I came to realize it was because at some level others understood I would be reasoned, balanced, and measured in my role. My first was also as president of my college fraternity where I experienced similar challenges working with the extroverts. What I wish someone had told me then that I came to learn much later in life is to simply let extroverts know that you need time and a bit of space to think things through. I learned to use these moments as an opportunity to teach by offering the knowledge of how the two personality types work as Martha shared. Once extroverts understood the difference they came to value my capabilities and approach.

Mar 7 2012: Excellent talk! Developing awareness of the personality characteristics that motivate our lives, how they operate in the act of creativity, how they compliment each other to take action and solve issues, and their value in the ontology of beingness enriches the experience of living.

A reply on Talk: Susan Cain: The power of introverts

Mar 7 2012: Mark, I like your thinking. I however, saw the bow and arrow analogy in reverse - invented by the contemplative introvert and marketed by the extrovert.
  • A comment on Conversation: If you could make a wish on behalf of The City 2.0, what would it be?

Dec 6 2011: My wish for City 2.0 is that there be substantial progress made toward the transformation of inner-city neighborhoods. Cities have neglected this valuable asset for too long. Regeneration of inner-city neighborhood business districts are an opportunity to capitalize on local entrepreneurial spirit while addressing the issues of jobs and wealth building for low income residents while creating healthy and vital living, working, and social experiences.
