Jonas Gahr Støre: In defense of dialogue
when we were kids, my father made my brother and I sit down at the table whenever we got into a fight. each will have his turn to vent, protest, accuse or explain, what have you. but the point of my father's lesson was to force the other person to listen, to train us to be patient, to be quiet, to wait and build your argument around the speaker's issues and construct your basis to retaliate, to divide and conquer, and win the argument around. that's how i negotiate, that's how i have dialogues with competitors, partners and allies. thanks Dad, truly.
