About Me

Currently serving in my 27th year as an educator. I am also a musician and have contributed some of my music to film projects, an activity I would like to pursue with greater frequency in the years ahead. Samples of my work can be found at the Sound Cloud and Myspace links provided on this page.

I am hoping to "break ground" on the Ariel's Wood project once my career winds down as a educator--circa 2013.

More About Me

I'm passionate about

Music, movement, and meditation & prayer.

An idea worth spreading

I am hoping to establish a retreat center based in western North Carolina--Ariel's Wood. Ariel’s Wood is an offering to those who seek a place for contemplative retreat and a gathering place for those who wish to enrich human experience through a cultivation of common ground in the Arts and Sciences.

Talk to me about

For Profit vs Non-Profit Funding. Eco-design. Digital Arts. Anything that seeks a common vision in arts, science, and spirituality.

People don't know that I'm good at

Musical composition. Poetry. Journalism.

My TED Story

Looking forward to networking with folks who may be able to assist with Ariel's Wood project. The idea would be to have a place that allows people to find the silence that feeds the creative process as well as providing an outlet for artists / thinkers to share their work -- either in a coffeehouse setting or in art exhibits / installations/ lectureships. .

Jan 12 2012: Thank you...it's been in the envisioning stage for some time. A chance to "pay back" what's been given. I am hoping to locate in the area of Asheville, North Carolina. Definitely rural--want to find a place that is mature forest; streams / waterfall....hoping to finance the land / property purchase with my retirement package. Put it on the line. Too often I have seen groups be overly ambitious with purchases and then are saddled with a mortgage when business sags.

Jan 12 2012: What is the best way to determine if one should run as profit or non-profit? I want to transition from high school teacher to establishing a retreat center that also offers opportunities for finding common ground in the worlds of Art and Science....kind of like a coffeehouse / arts installation gallery / theater / lecture series. Not too big....no more than 80-100 audience at a time. Want to keep it small but effective. I'm all ears.

Dec 18 2011: To network with projects like this:

Ariel’s Wood will an offering to those who seek a place for contemplative retreat and a gathering place for those who wish to enrich human experience through a cultivation of common ground in the Arts and Sciences.

The aim of Ariel’s Wood is to establish a place that is open for people who wish for silent retreat as well as explore creative pursuits in art and science. Ariel’s Wood will be both a playground and nesting place for ideas and experiences that help us connect to one another and seek our deepest human potentials.

The worlds of Art and Science are opposite sides of the same coin, bound together by the passion for discovery that lights the passage of ages. Ariel’s Wood hopes to create an open exchange of ideas that trace their currency to our most precious ancient cultural traditions as well as look forward to our most innovative humanistic discoveries. Art programs would include coffeehouse series in an intimate and small venue (capacity circa 100), theatrical performances, studio recording & workshops, artist-in-residence opportunities, book and film series, art installations within the main performance hall, music instruction, sacred dance & yoga classes, and workshops in handicraft and folk art. Science programs would include film and lecture series, photographic exhibits, ecology walks, conservation studies, and gardening. The cumulative intent would have Ariel’s Wood network with any and all groups, locally and globally, who are aspirants in the work and play of a ‘verifiable spiritual ecology’ that serves Great Nature. We will assist in sponsoring people and projects in America and around the world who see the need to ‘pay forward’ and create a more habitable and dynamically evolving world. Within the sphere of Ariel’s Wood, the phrase “work in progress,” will become an honorable striving…its work to preserve the idea of life as continuous education and thus fill a need for those who are thirsty seekers
