Banning science because of racist origins
It is to my understanding that the main problem of ethics with this case was that these bodies were sent to Dr. Perkopf DURING nazi times. Which means the nazis murdered these people and then sent them to be studied to the University of Vienna. Which is of course wrong. I think it is proper to ban the book. If only to discourage allowing these sorts of atrocities. You are right, knowledge is knowledge however we can not reward Eduard Pernkopf's work because of how it came about. We have to discourage any investigators from 'sacrificing' their ethics for the good of scientific advancement with the idea that in the end their work will be published anyway. They must know that if the don't follow scientific ethics, they will NOT be acknowledged and their knowledge will NOT be shared. At least I believe that is the justification behind banning Dr. Pernkopf's work. I think comparing to works that speak OF the holocaust is unfair. Since these works mention it's atrocities to make people conscious of it's horrors. Dr. Pernkopf's work is a product of these horrors and takes advantage of them in a sort of positive way.

Ken Robinson: Do schools kill creativity?
Schooling is not for the building of knowledge capital. I'm sorry but that is completely off the mark. Schooling is for teaching. You're careful of mentioning basic things for living and that's cute how you accuse Robinson of omitting information and then proudly proceed to do the same. Where does Physics I and II come in? Chemistry I and II? For people how study literature. How about Biology and Ecology for them? Or why do I need to know about Psychological diseases, the different theories and their authors as a student of Engineering? Or how about a person who goes into theater and their need to know Calculus? Or is it that you think all schools are exactly like yours and everybody had your teachers and lives in your school district? Congratulations on finishing the school program we (the world) currently have but have you ever talked with graduate students? Have you seen how many of them can't get jobs? Have you seen how many come out from majors that they find boring and uninteresting but pursue due to pressure from society? I AM a college student. An engineering student. I'm going through the program. I'm watching my companions drop out from all careers. I'm watching them writhe in confusion. I'm happy that the current method worked for you, but Sir Ken is proposing that it isn't working for as many people as it should or it used too. He isn't proposing the annihilation of schools, he's proposing a change in the method of teaching. You know change? That thing kind of sort of necessary for evolution? Do you have children? I have to watch my little brother struggle when he shouldn't be struggling. He's no idiot. He can use a computer, he can learn what he wants to from google and he does. And not just him, his companions and kids from other schools as well. SO WHY ARE SCHOOLS INCAPABLE OF TEACHING? Yeah, I have a caps lock button too. How about you grow up and open your mind? Look around a bit and OBSERVE, get INVOLVED, you might see something, heaven forbid.

Emiliano Salinas: A civil response to violence
Just to put it out there, I am a Mexican, born in Mexico and the like. And to give a brief idea to the people who aren't aware of Emiliano's background and who don't understand why Mexican's are so quick to hostility is that you do have to understand that we have been accustomed to charming, charismatic politicians who proceed to screw us over. His father participated in a 70 year dictatorship. So if we are weary of him, there is a reason for it. HOWEVER, I do not believe that it is relevant to his message, as he says. No matter what you think of him or his family, he speaks a message that is true and to the point. He is right in what he asks of the Mexican populace and his points are no less true just because it comes from his mouth. He may or may not be like his father. So far he has proven he has no intention of being like him. I suppose what I'm trying to say is c'mon you guys. THINK FOR CHRIST'S SAKE. He's right. We need action. We need mobilization. Are you going to ignore him just because of his family name? That's stupid, ignorant, ridiculous and closed minded. And you people who say "Because of you and your father our country is like it is." You're wrong. It's because of YOU and people like YOU that our country is like it is. Free your mind. Remember that the society has the power. We have the power. We can change the country. We can act. We can do so much. So for God's sake reach out, raise your hand, stand up. Stop being controlled by fear. Our country is being controlled and attacked by terrorists. That's what they are, they are trying to breed fear to control us. So stop letting them win and be the citizen you're supposed to be. Be the person you demand others be. Stop being a hypocrite which you accuse others of being. I love my country and I have no intent of taking this laying down. I will attempt to change my country. I will be a part of change. I will act. I will move forward. I will help. I only beg you do the same.
