  Oct 3 2011: Call me cynical and wizened but peace on earth is only possible under a utilitarian tyranny. Is that desirable? Maybe it is.

  Oct 3 2011: "The most improper things we commit in the conduct of our lives, we are led into by the force of fashion" - Sir Richard Steele. Obviously, Steele was talking about received ideas rather than clothes, though in my view the remark obtains in both respects...
