A comment on Talk: Diane J. Savino: The case for same-sex marriage

Aug 31 2010: I also agree with Jesus when he says “You have heard the law that says, ‘Love your neighbour’ and hate your enemy. But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you! In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven. For he gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and the unjust alike. If you love only those who love you, what reward is there for that? Even corrupt tax collectors do that much. If you are kind only to your friends, how are you different from anyone else? (Matthew 5:43-47)
So this young, sexy, hunky gay man will be praying for you Steve Madison, The Kurgan In Disguise, etc, etc

Aug 31 2010: This is not a religious issue; it’s a state issue; if I remember correctly religion and state are supposed to be separate. A state/nation cannot deny any of its citizens any ‘right’ under the law, ‘all people were created equal’, its in the US Declaration of Independence and in The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, therefore , the right to marry cannot be discriminated against.
That’s not to say that a religious homosexual can chose not to get married on religious belief, but the state/nation cannot deny the right to allow that person to get married.
I agree with Steve Madison “The smart lady on the video may do anything she wants, change the laws, institute a legal right for same-sex marriage, equalize the government healthcare and retirement benefits, anything at all - but nothing will change where it really matters - in the heart (love).” This is what the issue comes down too denying someone the choice to express love.
