Oct 13 2011: I didn't know about Freecycle. Thank you for your response - I checked it out and it seems quite widespread, also in Europe. That's one good possible solution!
Oct 10 2011: I like and support the idea, but an important issue hasn't been addressed . Okay we edit our space, we don't plunge into shopping sprees and we find multifunctional solutions, but what happens to all the stuff we discard? Thinking about it, a picture of a gigantic disposal sites in Tokyo comes to mind, full of edited furniture and appliances. What do we do about that?
