  If you compare each dollar to a ballot, it is quite similar, and with the availability of various pier2pier networks for self-organized production ( kickstarter, taskrabit, airbnb, freelancer, ...) we might expect to have a self-organizing and self-governed society soon.

  Feb 27 2012: It is not that hard:
  - Demand better quality.
  - Demand that software does offer warranty, same as mechanical apliances do.
  - If you can afford it, pay for security audits.
  - Use, test and contribute to open source software to improve on its quality.
  - Get rid of closed source software (proprietary software is pay and pray).

  Feb 21 2012: What any society needs after a disaster is bottom-up organisation for producing food, fresh water and shelter.
  Bottom-up meaning that residents of the affected area have to organise on small scale and tackle local problems one at a time.
  
  Being dependant on external help for more then 1 year is a sure way into long term poverty and slavery.
