Benjamin Barber: Why mayors should rule the world
Sure cities function better then states - there is higher level of direct/individual responsibility for the actions taken and the re are more exposed. The next step of the evolution of democracy is districts taking charge and after that individuals... The solution is to free people of the unneeded reigns as much as possible. Living off the grid is a good start to increase your freedom and your independence. Hope the technology will get cheaper and more efficient soon.

Srdja Popovic: How to topple a dictator
I see a lot of the sarcasm in your post, but I do not see what is the point of your replay. Is it that any authority is authoritarian? About mistakes: mistakes will always be done and mistakes are made by individual, but are generally accepted by the masses (IE: earth is flat; earth is the center of the universe; if you work hard you can achieve anything, ...) I am sure that canals did improve quality of living at the time those were build as did gasoline engine or freon refrigerators. The problem is we lack the will to correct the mistakes that have been done.

Bono: The good news on poverty (Yes, there's good news)
The vision of direct democracy is quite close to the vision of free markets. If you compare each dollar to a ballot, it is quite similar, and with the availability of various pier2pier networks for self-organized production ( kickstarter, taskrabit, airbnb, freelancer, ...) we might expect to have a self-organizing and self-governed society soon.

Avi Rubin: All your devices can be hacked
It is possible to trigger dopamine rush directly in the brain, no need for "tiresome labor" or psycoactive substances... (sarcasm off) Reccomended (fascinating) videos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I64X7vHSHOE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqTkuaAykBw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CH4TZteceas

It is not that hard: - Demand better quality. - Demand that software does offer warranty, same as mechanical apliances do. - If you can afford it, pay for security audits. - Use, test and contribute to open source software to improve on its quality. - Get rid of closed source software (proprietary software is pay and pray).
