TEDx Events For hosts: Designing your event > Playing pre-recorded TEDTalks

All TEDx events must include pre-recorded TEDTalks. Twenty-five percent or more of the content for your event must come from TED.com. The following are options for accessing TEDTalks for your TEDx event.

Best practices for playback of TEDTalks

  • Don't stream talks from the web: Download, don't stream the talks. You will be at the mercy of bandwidth and connectivity, which can be unreliable at the most inconvenient times. Rather, you should download the video from our website in high-res MP4 format. (Right click "Watch this talk as high-res video" and click "Save As.") The high-res MP4 we offer is better than DVD quality, and suitable for projection onto a large screen.
    • To download a talk in regular resolution: Click the "Video to desktop" link under the "Download this talk" header below the video player. The zip file will download to your desktop.
  • Burn a TEDTalk on DVD: Select the TEDTalk you would like, and download the high-res MP4 version. Use software like iMovie or Windows Movie Maker to convert the file to a DVD-friendly format.
  • Try the Miro open-source player: Miro, a free, open-source player, downloads TEDTalks and saves them to a playlist for smooth, reliable playback. (Available for PC, Mac or Linux).
