Terms and Conditions for Associate Members
Anyone, in any country, may sign up to become a TED Associate Member. $995.00 (U.S. dollars) must be paid in full at sign-up in order for your membership to be processed; it can be paid by credit card or check. The membership lasts 12 months and may be renewed indefinitely (note: pricing may vary by year). We will issue tax receipts for the amount of $495.00.
Groups and institutions such as libraries, businesses and universities are welcome to join, but the same terms and conditions apply.
Be sure you review the webcast page to determine whether your system meets the requirements to watch the live web stream from TED. Note: You will be given one private log-in name, and only one IP address (one computer) will be permitted to access the live stream.
Your Associate Membership allows you to watch the live web stream with up to 10 friends or colleagues, but no more than 10 people may view. If you are joining on behalf of an institution, separate memberships are required for every 10 people who will view the TED Conference webcast. (Please contact us with concerns.)
Note: The license to hold a screening is granted on a strict noncommercial basis. You may not charge admission for your screening, nor may you use your event to advertise. You may not resell the feed in any form, in whole or in increments. You may not market your gathering to the public, including on the internet. (You have lots of other options for hosting larger TED gatherings.) You may not charge for the right to attend your event. No Associate live events may be held within a 5-mile radius of the site of the live conference.
Program features and terms and conditions are subject to change.
Removal of Members
TED Conferences LLC reserves the right, at any time and for any reason, to revoke a TED Associate Membership from an individual or a group with full refund (minus any balance totaling the cost of benefits already received).
Tax-deductibility
Payments for TED Associate memberships take the form of a contribution to the foundation which owns TED, the Sapling Foundation, a private 501(c)3 nonprofit foundation. We will send you a receipt acknowledging the contribution for registrations after May 5, 2009. A portion of your membership is not tax deductible (value of services received). For the TED Associate Program, this amount is $ 500. The amount the member pays in excess of the value of services received may be tax-deductible as a philanthropic contribution, although you should consult your own advisers as individual situations may differ.
