Autodesk platforms help creative people -- architects, industrial designers, planners and many more -- realize their vision
As an idea-driven company, Autodesk is a great match for TED. In its core values -- a focus on design, technology and entertainment -- the company shows its deep affinity for the values of the TED community.
Autodesk is committed to fostering innovation through design, and is proud to be a sponsor of the TED2008 Conference and online TEDTalks.
TED speakers are asking the big questions and offering some big answers. Autodesk believes that many of today's big questions can be answered through innovative design. Autodesk's technology enables innovators to experience their ideas before they are real, explore design alternatives and make improvements in how their projects will look, perform, and be used, leading to things unimagined just a short time ago.
Solutions for Creativity
Autodesk's eight-million-plus customers are the people who design the world around us. Autodesk solutions serve many kinds of creative people -- architects and engineers, filmmakers and special-effects gurus, consumer product and industrial designers.
Creative people, using Autodesk solutions, can visualize, simulate, and analyze their ideas -- helping them explore infinite alternatives and make early improvements to the way their projects and products will look, perform and be used. This can mean saving time and money; improving collaboration; reducing errors and speeding time-to-market; increasing sustainability; and enabling innovation.
For example:
+ A product designer uses Autodesk solutions to collaborate digitally, sharing their designs with a global team, allowing for easier innovation, faster product launches, and more efficient management of global supply chains.
+ Using an Autodesk solution, an architect predicts performance, appearance and cost of a building to reliably deliver the project faster, more economically and with reduced environmental impact.
+ When designing a new feature film, an artist uses Autodesk solutions to model, animate and light realistic high-resolution characters and environments -- giving them the tools they need to focus on realizing a creative vision.
+ Using Autodesk solutions, governments and municipalities can visualize their urban surrounding and model their future decisions on land development and infrastructure.
The Power of Visualization
At TED2008, a team of artists engaged in a visual experiment called BigViz to record and synthesize the big questions and big ideas presented over the four-day conference. Two skilled artists created spontaneous sketches of the TED presentations, illustrating the power of interactive visualization for TED participants to see the big picture, create insight, and communicate ideas visually -- central principles of design innovation.
Autodesk has created a downloadable book and video to help you visualize the immense ideas presented at TED2008.
