The year

2010

I wish for your help to create a strong, sustainable movement to educate every child about food, inspire families to cook again and empower people everywhere to fight obesity.

The plan

Over two billion people around the world are considered obese or overweight which can lead to chronic illnesses like heart disease, diabetes, and more. Jamie Oliver wants all of us to be a leading force in the fight against diet-related diseases and make healthy living part of our daily lives. By using the power of cooking skills, hands-on food education programs for adults and kids, and awareness raising campaigns he's inspiring a global community to take on their own local Food Revolution and empower the next generation.

Current status

The Jamie Oliver Food Foundation works with kids, communities, businesses and policy partners to make food education a priority. The foundation is leading a full-scale Food Revolution to improve the health and happiness of families around the world. Through programs like the Ministry of Food, Kitchen Garden Project, and Fifteen Apprentice Program adults and children are learning how to grow and cook their own healthy food, drastically changing the way families eat.

Over 750,000 people have signed up to be Food Revolutionaries and are committed to making healthy eating a part of their lives. Oliver's Food Foundation's partnership with Food Day has helped their Get Food Education in Every School campaign grow tremendously. Over 80 organizations now have a platform to come together and raise awareness around the importance of getting food education on to US school curriculums.

The Food Foundation is currently continuing its mission to end childhood obesity. They're committed to raising awareness of and reducing sugar consumption in the UK by advocating for clearer food labeling, a tax on sugary drinks and fairer marketing so kids are not overwhelmed with advertisements for unhealthy, sugar loaded foods.

which teaches their Learn Your Fruits and Vegetables program, in partnership with Whole Foods Northern California, they teach kids in after-school clubs their first step in food education through fun classes about different fruits and vegetables and cooking simple and tasty recipes. Through the Big Rig mobile teaching kitchen, in partnership with The California Endowment, they reach the most in-need Californian communities, teaching cooking classes on board the truck and training up local Food Champions who can continue teaching classes once the truck moves on. Through their Global Ambassador Program they have a network of volunteers working locally for the global cause to bring the Food Revolution to life, galvanizing energies to kick-start foodie initiatives and supporting Food Revolution Day in May each year.
JOFF’s partnerships have allowed them to grow and scale nationally, their latest campaign Get Food Education in Every School, in partnership with Food Day, has given over 80 organizations a platform to come together and raise awareness around the importance of getting food education on to the curriculum and into a school's everyday culture. JOFF’s newest program is developing cooking classes for workplaces, to engage businesses as the next space in need of a Food Revolution, getting their staff cooking and improving their health, happiness and productivity at work, and at home.
