About TED How to help spread TED ยป TEDTalks on TV

The TED Open TV Project

TED Open TV

Launched in May 2010, the TED Open TV Project allows broadcasters worldwide to air TEDtalks for free, provided they follow basic guidelines (no editing, interrupting or showing commercials during the talks). Licensed broadcasters will have permission not only to air the talks, but also create programs around them -- for example, using local hosts to introduce or wrap up the talks. It's truly open-source TV.

Please note: Our beta program is now closed to new broadcasters. Please watch this space for news of the program opening again.

With dozens of participating broadcasters worldwide, the beta project worked to expand TED's capacity to spread ideas, particularly in the developing world, where low internet penetration and slow connections make online video impractical. Where appropriate, the talks will be translated into the local language, and these new translations will be made available on TED.com.

The Open TV Project was inspired by a number of dedicated broadcasters who were determined to bring TEDTalks to their communities, and who designed this beta program with us. They include the Swedish Educational Broadcasting Company (Sweden), LinkTV (United States), KissTV (East Africa), La Tele (Switzerland) and GeoTV (Pakistan) as well as the European Broadcasting Union.
