TEDxLive is a license for TEDx events centered around the live webcast of a TED Conference. TEDGlobal 2012 Simulcast events are now available with the new TEDxLive license.
A new kind of TEDx event
The idea for TEDxLive grew out of a question we at TED were asking ourselves: What would happen if we made the TED Conference more open, its impact more immediate and tangibly global? What would happen if communities around the world gathered to engage with -- and build on -- the TED Conference experience while it happened live?
How do I apply?
A TEDxLive license permits you free access to a portion of the live webcast of a TED Conference.

What is TEDxLive?
TEDxLive is a new initiative to encourage communities around the world to organize events around the live webcast of an official TED Conference. A TEDxLive license (as opposed to the standard TEDx license) is given to those approved to host simulcast events around official TED conference webcasts.
Rules for TEDxLive events only
TEDxLive events are subject to the same rules that all TEDx events must follow. However, make note of the following differences:
- Admission/tickets: All TEDxLive events must be free to attendees. You cannot charge an admission fee. You may attach a sponsor. (Sponsor rules apply.)
- Attendance: There is no limit to the number of attendees you may invite if you are viewing just the webcast. If you are planning on programming additional content -- e.g., local live speakers -- the standard attendance rules apply.
- Name: TEDxLive event names all follow the same convention: a name beginning with "TEDx," followed by a descriptor such as the name of your city, school, neighborhood or organization, followed by the word "Live."
- Organizers who already have a TEDx license should use their existing event's name as the basis for the TEDxLive event's name. E.g., the owner of TEDxKibera would register TEDxKiberaLive.
- Creating your TEDxLive logo: Communicating a clear message regarding your TEDxLive event and how it relates to TED is a crucial first step. The TEDxLive Toolkit [.doc] should answer your questions about messaging and branding. It covers how to use the TEDx logos, TEDxLive buttons/banners, complete specifications for print and screen applications, website branding, marketing and PR suggestions. You will receive this document when you sign up to host a TEDxLive event.
- Website: For licensees with already-existing TEDx websites, TEDxLive should be identified with the simple addition of banners and buttons advertising the event. Several banner/button options are available for your use. The content of these banners and buttons will change depending on the particular event that is being broadcast. You may create a website exclusive to your TEDxLive event, e.g., "TEDxTokyoLive.com," but the site should redirect to your regular TEDx site once the event is complete.
- Choose a URL that matches the name of the license. E.g., "TEDxLiveKibera.com."
- Add the following copy:
TEDxLive is an extension of the TEDx program, launched by TED in 2010. TEDxLive events are TEDx events built around the live webcast of TED Conferences. TEDxLive events enable TED enthusiasts all over the world to experience live sessions of the TED Conference; events can be simple viewing events, and may also host live speakers.
- Take down all TEDxLive promotions immediately after the conference.
TEDxLive PR/media rules
Publicizing your TEDxLive event: Because TEDxLive events are self-organized, you must represent yourself as a participating organizer in your specific TEDxLive program. TED staff should be the sole official spokespeople for TED and the program as a whole; any journalist seeking comment from TED should be routed through the TEDx program's media liaison, Melody Serafino.

If you'd like to use images for promotional materials, please search "TEDx" on Flickr and select images from past TEDx events. Upon your selection, please reach out to the appropriate TEDx organizers to ask for permission to use their TEDx event images.
IMPORTANT: Do not select images that contain the TED logo. Use the TEDx logo. Do not use the TED logo at any time, and don't allow journalists to use it (in print or on video). Supply journalists with your customized TEDxLive logo.
All press releases should be submitted, in advance, to Melody Serafino, for final review and approval. Releases should be sent at least three weeks before your event -- earlier if possible. Please allow 48 hours for release turnaround and approval.
Your email to Melody Serafino should include:
- The date on which the release will be sent
- The method by which the release will be sent (formal service, e.g. PR Newswire, or your own media list)
Quotes: Due to the large number of events, TED does not provide quotes for individual press releases.
