What if we build the Africa we want? And what if the whole world could take another look and see Africa through the eyes of Africans? What would you see?

The TEDGlobal 2007 conference in Arusha, Tanzania, gave us a picture of Africa that many were not aware of. We saw how people on the continent are now taking matters into their own hands and redefining their future. TEDAfrica 2008 in Cape Town, South Africa, will take this discussion a step further and give us a glimpse of that unfolding future.

TEDAfrica 2008 is being organized by a wonderful local team, including TEDFellow Kelo Kubu, and operated out of a new South Africa-based nonprofit organization devoted to promoting a better future for the continent, the TEDAfrica Foundation. TED will be supporting the foundation both financially and logistically, to help ensure that the event maintains and builds on the quality and success of the Arusha event.

At TEDAfrica 2008, architects, biologists, designers, musicians, economists, healers, entrepreneurs, philosophers, poets, adventurers, astronomers, storytellers, scientists and many others, will share experiences and reveal new possibilities. In the process, they will bring to life visions of what this complex yet incredibly exciting continent is becoming.

Expect the famous TED serving of profundity and challenge. Sprinkled, naturally, with a bit of African magic and wonder.
