Kony 2012- what does raising awareness do?
With the recent explosion in media and videos on the KONY 2012 campaign I've had mixed feelings on the issue. On one hand there is a huge amount of awareness that has been raised on this issue but on the other, how deep is the understanding of what is actually going on in Africa? After watching the video myself, I was moved but slightly skeptic. I don't think I had a great understanding of what was actually going on. Usually after a TED Talk that long, I feel satisfied with the information presented. Not to be accusatory but I really just wanted to know how raising awareness can truly make a difference in finding Kony.

I think we are entering into a new era, can we call it "crowd government". You see that the crowd is initiating the news, then raising the awareness , and then driving the politicians to act.
Note: Thanks to the US Political system, I can't see how is this possible in any other government.

I can post several links too, but I would leave it for you ! Just check the most wanted list in the International Criminal Court.
But why now ? Why not eight years ago ? That's the question you should be asking. But either way the fact still there:
Kony is a criminal and a mass murderer.

All criminals around the world would have to know that the whole world will be after them one by one, and that the world would definitely be a different place.

Like you JUST said this news is 9 years old. Why now? Well obviously there are hidden agendas.
As far as your second thought about world criminals...

Unless the governments want them down, they will not be taken down. I suggest to not let positive thinking get into the way of rationally thinking as it will delude you.
This movie proves people are easily manipulated and nothing else. Like a giant "haha we can convince the masses of anything we say, because of groupthinking - idiots." Now I am done here because every comment makes this conversation become more popular, which is just disturbing me right now.
*As I read through your recent comments to find you do know what you are talking about, spend more energy spreading knowledge else where. Kony 2012 is just crap, just let this conversation die.

I'm posting the above links not because that is "the truth" whereas that viral video is "the lie". But to indicate they're all just stories, meaning they all necessarily pick and choose things to highlight and other things to sweep under the carpet. And that makes all the difference. What we react to is the stories that enter our minds, not the truth.
