What do you think the U.S should do about the current situation in Iran?

There are multiple things that come into play with the situation in Iran. there are the death threats, Iran saying that they're going to "wipe Israel off the face of the Earth", the fact they now have nuclear weapons and are lying about their purpose, and anything else you can think of. I was just wondering what your guy's opinions were. Do you think that we could end up i n a nuclear war?

Mar 6 2012: Iran seems to presently have two problems: 1) Difficulty getting a deliverable nuclear weapon with which to annihilate Israel. 2) What will Israel's allies do to prevent, or retaliate for, such an act? America, and any other ally Israel has, ought to eliminate the unknown from problem number two by stating clearly and unequivocally what they will do. The dispatch might read something like this: " If you launch a nuclear weapon against any nation you will meet with such swift and terrible retribution that survivors, if there are any, in your country will be living as man lived in the stone age for the next several generations."

Mar 6 2012: Thank for responding, but didn't we do that already? I'm not sure, but please tell me what we have done. I thought we kinda' did that when we refused to move our Navy.

Mar 7 2012: There is a clear and present danger that Iran is continuing to pursue nuclear capability. That should make it clear that they are not convinced that such action is not good. America needs to make it crystal clear that if they do not cease and desist all nuclear weapon development activity there will be grave consequences. Further, if they use such a weapon they will be annihilated as a political and geographic entity. Saber rattling does not work with Iran It is time to be clear.

Mar 7 2012: it is neither clear nor present. it is just a faint theoretical possibility.

however, there is a clear and present danger that the US will conduct military operations on foreign soil once again. who is the aggressor here?

          Mar 7 2012: @Krisztián Pintér
I think it's our duty to take the initiative in protecting ourselves. I wouldn't be the one who got hit first with the nuclear weapon. But I have one question: My teacher said something about Iran being able to block off the oil to everybody. Is this true? And if so, what would we do, because that would surely be catastrophic for everyone who has a job, or place to be.

Mar 7 2012: Iran's oil is not essential to the continuing operation of the world.

      What kind of consequences ?

Mar 8 2012: 1) It might result in America being unable to restrain Israel from launching what she considers to be a necessary preemptive strike against nuclear targets in Iran. 2) The USA (and maybe UN) might take action to deny Iran nuclear weapon capability.
