TED2013 Worldwide Auditions: Open Thread
From April - June 2012, TED will hold public auditions in 14 cities on six continents seeking to uncover new talents, voices and ideas the world needs to hear: emerging trailblazers, under-celebrated sages, hidden geniuses.
Want to participate? Enter by filling out our online form and making a one-minute video about your TED Worldwide Audition presentation. For more details on what we're looking for and specifics on how to enter, check our audition FAQ here: http://conferences.ted.com/TED2013/auditions/
Applications for auditions in each region will open 70 days before that region's event and will stay open for 20 days. Here's the full schedule: http://conferences.ted.com/TED2013/auditions/info.php
If you have a question about the auditions, post it here, and I or another member of the TED staff will do our best to answer quickly.
Good luck!

I wish to present a TED talk(either in TED2013 or as a separate TEDx Event) on "importance of movies and music artists in every individual lives and our responsibilities towards celebrities". Kindly let me know what are the procedures that needs to be done from my end.
I also have other TED talks lined up. I have also got myself nominated as a speaker by prominent TED members . "Bangalore , India" is a preferred place where I wish to give a TED talk.I am okay to give at another location also .
Here is my TED profile to know more about me :http://www.ted.com/profiles/1289477

I've been giving some thought to evaluation for the auditions - it looks from your website, and from comments by Nick, that the plan is to have people vote on finalists...
I hope and am sure that TED can figure out a way to make this work better than most of these "vote for me! vote for me!" situations, which too often end up being more about the number of connections on social media than the content. Most people don't have time or energy to watch more than a few talks, and they're also far more inclined to vote for their friends.
One suggestion: Maybe there's a way to sign people up to receive 3 or 4 randomly selected audition videos per week (day?) and rate them by some metric? Or maybe play them against one another, round-robin style? ... not sure... also, evaluating across categories of talks.... hard to compare apples with oranges in the best of situations.
Anyway, worth some further thought, & I'm sure this community can come up with fantastic ways to help your team evaluate. Would be happy to discuss further.
(I know it's a bit of a conflict of interest to mention this, given that I did an audition in Doha, but it's a concern that was brewing before I decided to participate, so not much sense in holding it back).
It was great to see you in Doha, and to remember @Aspen!... Hope the auditions are going well. Thanks so much for this opportunity - I had a blast, and preparing the talk really helped me put more structure to the work I do.

I was just wondering when we could expect to hear back from the NY submissions?
Thanks!

Had a question, If we do not receive a message by the specified week mentioned on the audition form; would that mean our video did not get selected ?
Would appreciate a response.
Thanks.Abhinandan

Also, I have an idea - The selected 1 minute vids and later the 6 min auditions should also be shared with the world.
Wht do you say?
Cheers

I'm sure we got it (there's no auto-response, I'm afraid), and can check for you, but need to know which city you applied for. Let us know and we'll take a look.
All best,

Don't worry now about the travel. We can discuss if you are accepted as one of the finalists to appear at the event. If you cannot afford your own travel, however, you should apply for the event that is closest to where you live. In your case, that's probably Tunis. Applications for that event will open on 29 February.

As they open, we'll post links to the application form for each on that page as well. You can submit your entry online, and the form will tell you all you need to know when it's live.

You can apply to audition at any of the events you'd like, as long as you pick only one.
For anyone else who may read this ... TED may cover travel to an audition in exceptional cases, but applicants who cannot afford to cover their own travel should apply to the audition event nearest to them.
