Why not go for an alternate fuel ?

Hi all,
I am really concerned about the severe hike in the price of petrol in India.why don't we invent an alternate fuel so that we don't have to depend on the government? I have heard a news about water car in Japan.why is it not manufactured in large quantity? Please discuss !

I would suggest an alternate solution for fuel:

Also, magnetic rails were briefly mentioned in Zeitgeist: Addendum

But since you're in India, I wouldn't worry too much about peak oil, I would worry more about peak water. You won't have an alternative source for clean water.

Feb 3 2012: Thank you, Theodore. That info.was very good.:-)
  • Feb 2 2012: Hi Arus,

There are lotsof alternate fuels. Unfortunately none of them are price competitie with gasoline or diesel fuel.

Sorry, the water car is an urban legend. Water is the byproduct created by burning hydrogen. The energy in the hydrogen is already used up.

Feb 3 2012: There is a car that was designed t run on compassed air. How is that not more cost-effective than gas?

      • Feb 3 2012: Hi Theodore,

That's an interesting concept and certainly has some merit. It appears that they've been working on many of the same challenges facing electric car designers. Namely, limited range, power and refueling times.

One has to be careful when comparing propulsion schemes to make sure that the performance is tested on comparable vehicles. A lot of this car's performance is the result of it being a purpose built, ultra-light vehicle. We just don't know if the efficiencies are due to the compressed air powerplant, the ultra-light chassis, or (most likely) some of each. They did mention that the gas/air hybrid version has exceptional fuel efficiency but did not go into details. That would be the best available comparision of the two drivetrains.

        Best wishes,
        Doug

Feb 2 2012: The RSA talk says, "Join Jeremy Rifkin as he describes how the five-pillars of the Third Industrial Revolution will create thousands of businesses and millions of jobs, and usher in a fundamental reordering of human relationships, from hierarchical to lateral power, that will impact the way we conduct business, govern society, educate our children, and engage in civic life.

India, and countries like India, can be ahead of Western develop ones, since it is not invested in the current infrastructure.
