Jan 30 2012: The answer is "Not yet, but someday."
Biological engineering is in its infancy. Haha! Yes I like that turn of phrase. But its true. The age of the microchip is coming to an end. We are entering the age of the nanochip. Along with the understanding of ever smaller realities, we are undertaking the voyage that will change the future more than the discovery of fire.
We are just opening the door to the awareness that so many assumptions of the past were logical mistakes that suited our knowledge at the time but are being surpassed by our discoveries in Physics and Genetics.
For example our understanding of vision is changing. The old idea was that a portion of our brain - called the visual cortex - took the electro-chemical signals from our retinas and created an interior model of our surroundings - all in color and correct right to left and upright. Amazing, right? Well, vision is amazing but we got the process wrong. Our brain is interacting with our surroundings in a holographic way. Our awareness actually extends outside of our bodies and interacts with energy in ways that will change everything from medicine to Psychology.
Methods will be discovered which allow people to repair their bodies in miraculous ways. Growing new limbs will be a part of this. I hope that it happens soon enough for you to enjoy the experience. Me too!
