Fluorescent crosswalks

at night crosswalks and also the borders / midlines are rarely visible. why not mix the white colour with fluorescent materials so it shines when illuminated by headlights so they are better visible at night?

    Jan 24 2012: A great iea in fact, I happen to know why all school buses are the color they are, a member of the Grange in some small town sent the idea up the county state and national level until a bill was lobbied for and passed, its amazing how you can actually promote an idea to tthe point of seeing it applied. The DOT is a great benefactor of the federal monies spent to revitalize state economies as well contact you local DOT and your congressman see if you can get the idea funded as a test a least.

      Jan 23 2012: There are a number of types of lighting that can last for several years at a time.
      LED for example can last upto 5 years according to the details of some bulbs.
      There are also proto-technologies being developed that could also utilize the people walking across the crosswalk to help power the lights.

      Not a bad idea.
