A robot to help you in day to day lives

something very similar to the iphone app 'siri' - but this time is it a working moving robot which is able to have a human like conversation, answer questions on homework/assigmments, it will have the ability to help you cook and tidy up the house- the one thing no one wants to do ?

How does this sound ? is this something you would buy?

  • Jan 18 2012: It will promote individualism
  • Jan 17 2012: This is currently considered to be the holy grail of technological advancements in Japan. Although current technology and the massive scale of the challenge prevents this from becoming reality right now, it is certainly plausible in the future.
  • Jan 17 2012: The idea is fine, although I don't think the technological ability for it will exist for some time.
That being said, we can infact eliminate everything that we hate in our day to day lives with a little work.
For example, we already have microwaves and ready-made food, home delivered shopping, Dishwashers, vacuum bots.
All we really need to do is adapt them slightly OR adapt our households to them.

For example, the history of washing plates (from past to present) has been as follows:

Get water > heat water up > wash dishes > place on draining board > dry > place in cupboard
    then
Use hot water > wash dishes > place on draining board > dry > place in cupboard
    then
Place dishes in dishwasher > leave to dry abit > dry fully > place in cupboard
    then
Place dishes in dishwasher > put in cupboard

So surely the next step would be..
    Place dishes in the dishwashing-cupboard

and voila! problem solved and the work is done, no robots needed.
(Unless you're more than arms length from the cupboard, then thats a whole different story, lol)
