Is man an endangered species?

Man continues to do the voluntary acts that precipitates chronic degenerative diseases that is now widespread among the young to the older. These so called diseases continue to increase directly proportional to the level of progress in 'modern' civilization. So, as we progress with our technological modern ways are we actually creating a senerio for our own demise on this plane of existance? I have reasons to see this to be true.

    Since most of these diseases affect us after reproductive age, I would say no. We're not doing much for our quality of life but I don't think we're in danger of killing ourselves off.

      Jan 9 2012: The longevity of human beings have increased due to advent and research of new medicines. However the quality of life is a big issue.

      Existence of human species is no problem ... the only question is in next 1000 years how many other species will he make extinct. ..... Lions, tigers etc are in the brink of extinction

        Jan 9 2012: I like the way you questioning what species can make it through another 1000 years. However, I wouldn't say existence of human beings as a specie is secured in the future. The thing is, human beings are on a same same boat with any other ones on planet Earth. Human civilization has already caused enormous damage to Earth's biosphere, and keeps advancing further. Perhaps, it is good idea to think about what would this planet be like many centuries later. Without a healthy planet to live on, any medicine or science can't keep human species lasting.

          Jan 9 2012: Unless the earth blasts into minute fragments there is nothing as such to worry. Again this possibility can also not be ruled out. But then it might happen after several thousand years.

          Man has a limit till which he can control things and beyond it everything is at the mercy of the nature..... so why worry for things which we cannot control

        Jan 9 2012: I'm not talking about the things that are not controllable. Just imagine, in the past earth was in much better shape in terms of sustainability. In the past there was no human caused ecological disasters, and no atmospheric pollutions. Even there was no such thing as nuclear waste or radiation. Any damage that has been done is the result of human actions. If the fish keeps polluting the pond it is living in, how it can possibly survive in there? Fish can't fly to another pond, or create a new one.
