Energy/Oil

We complain about an oil spill in the gulf but its been glanced over elsewhere in the world, man i gotta love this world full of so many contradictions :D

from the following source: http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2011/dec/22/nigerian-shell-oil-spill?INTCMP=SRCH

"Shell, which works in partnership with the Nigerian government in the delta, claims that 98% of all its oil spills are caused by vandalism, theft or sabotage by militants and only a minimal amount by deteriorating infrastructure. But this is disputed by communities."

I wonder if such response would be acceptable in the united states?
Even if shell is working with the Nigerian government, does that solve the problem?
I think the problem is that everyone world wide falters when someone says "its not our problem to intervene." But then who will?

Okay, say we forget the social implications. This wont negate the positive aspects that the rest of the world and the selective few in the government of Nigeria will continue to reap. Can anyone justify that?

Well we have some people calling them out, what will the rest of the world do?

So tell me now alternative energy only needs to be done to combat global warming? or to save lives and ways of lives now?
